This isn't going to be that much cheaper than the more powerful Titan XP, May as well just pony up the extra few hundred for it instead.

I don't think it will be anywhere near as quick either. In the past we had 970 that overclocked to 980 and 980ti that overclocked to Titan X. Thing is this time around AMD have nothing, so they will put it bang smack in the middle of the 1080 and TXP IMO.

Why would you kill your own uber card sales when you don't need to? AMD are coming to market with a 1070 competitor. That means the 1080 and TXP can stay at the exact same prices they are at now. And slowly they will rise, see also Intel.

The 1070 can't even sniff at the heels of the stock 1080, so no way this will be as quick as a TXP. It will cost Nvidia almost the same to produce (same core, slightly less VRAM maybe) so yeah, they won't kill their own card this time around.

Exactly, The Titan XP in some games is as much as 40FPS faster than the 1080 which is hella impressive so if this 1080 ti comes in around the £900 mark it's worth then just adding an extra £200 and getting the big daddy card.

Maybe that's what nVidia is hoping. I doubt it, though, because as we know the Titan XP is not exactly geared towards 'gamers' as much as it is deep learning and other areas.

That said, the 980ti sold by the barrel full and maybe made nVidia enough money for them to do the same thing again. $800 for a 10GB GPU that nips at the heel of the Titan XP—but overclocks beyond it—would be groundbreaking and help solidify nVidia's massive lead. When the average consumer sees that the 1080ti slays everything, even if they can't afford it, that prominence will incite the consumer to buy a 1070 over a 490 (or whatever it's going to be called) or a 1060 over a 480, and so on. So maybe they'll break even with the 1080ti if it's as powerful as a Titan XP (once overclocked) if they sell it at $800. But if that strong lead inspires millions to invest in them in other areas then it'll pay off.

That's just a rambling theory. Obviously it's based on very limited information.

It's really not. It's a ponsey gaming card. They removed double precision so made their intentions clear.

Nvidia have found, much like Apple, that there is a huge market for products like this. It's the same as cars. No one needs a super car, everyone wants one. Only with this the market is much wider, because they don't cost up to a million pounds.

Do I think Titan X is ponsey? absolutely. Do I own a Titan X (M)? yes. They've even managed to get some one like me to buy one. I can't afford a Ferrari but I could just about manage a second hand TXM.

For the rest of the market there is Tesla, Quadro etc whatever they are calling it these days. An area which up until very very recently they owned 100% lock stock and barrel. That is why they disabled DP because no doubt they were losing loads of sales to the original Titan which in today's terms seems positively cheap.

The clever tactic, of course, is that people are still raving about it and guys like JayzTwoCents—who initially said would not be getting Titan XP—are using them and showcasing their immense glory to a few hundred thousand 16-year-old gamers. People are still going googoogaga for what is almost a happy coincidence—which nVidia is playing on.

Totally. As if some one like Jay would not have one. That's like saying Linus wouldn't get one. They're the pawns, the salesmen.

I would love to buy a TXP, I've seen what they are capable of under water (a must for this card tbh). Problem is I no longer have TXP money. Had my fun (two Titan Black at launch) now I am back planet earth :)

But yeah, you will see launches lasting longer and longer now. The gap between releases is growing on both sides and Nvidia will be happy with that, given they are a mile in front.

That Scottish dude (forget his name now, the AMD bloke) said something that made an awful lot of sense a few months back.. Basically if you have anything like a TXM or 1070 stick with it and save up and buy the Volta Titan when it comes out. It will actually work out better value for money as it lasts the longest and remains powerful even when the next gen arrive.

I can handle 45 FPS minimums tbh. I don't notice any more than that because I play single player games nearly all of the time and the MP games I play are co op and donkey's years old. Thus they run like crap from the proverbial digging implement.

I've been gaming on my Fury X for about four weeks now and have not felt the urge to go back to my TX rig. The only game that made it cry was Deuce Ex (deliberately used the word for poo there, not a typo) but I can tell it's slop. The actual play areas are tiny and it's all somewhat cleverly laid out to make if feel far bigger than it really is. It looks nice yeah, but not at the hit it costs.

I think I am getting old :S

Yup, beast card. It can actually do 4k at 60 FPS. Nothing else can claim that crown and all would be more expensive (SLi 1080 for example).

My TXM has done me well. If I own it a year that would be a second best for me. I think the card I kept for the longest was my GTX 470.

Edit. Actually you know what dude I've had my Fury X since launch, whenever that may have been.

I'm umming and arrring between keeping my 2560x1440P 144Hz G-Sync Dell monitor and getting a Titan XP OR selling my current monitor and going with an Ultrawide.

I'm stuck for decisions ^_^

Well I have posted a Dell for you that does 85hz over DP I think and is what you are looking for :)

Adaptive Vsync for me is every bit as good as Gsync was. I truly mean that too, it's definitely fantastic. Nvidia came up with it, the gaming community went mad then they go away and come back with this device that does virtually the same thing yet get £100 for each one sold. Won't divulge how it actually works (in detail) nor the spec (it's encrypted) etc.

I had no choice but to try Adaptive. It's superb.

They could always leave the VRAM at 8GB so it's basically a 1080 with the bigger chip. For the mucking around to get to 10gb versus the relative gains it would be a way to keep the costs down.

But it would also reduce the bandwidth, which will likely reduce performance unlike going from 10GB to 8GB.

10gb isn't necessary yet. AMD's next card is set to have 8gb and they basically control all of the console games.

They may leave the VRAM at 12gb and sit it somewhere between the 1080 and TXP using the ram as a selling point? It's going to need to be more than the 1080 has really.

I mean it may literally just be a failed cut back Titan XP.

But how much do they have to cut out for the 1080ti to not match a Titan with the AIB partner overclocks?

A fair chunk dude.

The rumour goes that AMD's first Vega card will be 8gb HBM and will be around as fast as a 1070 for gaming. Apparently it does something as fast as a Titan XP but not gaming.

It isn't the big Vega card, so a 1070 competitor would be awesome. Problem is, if it's a 1070 competitor that means Nvidia can derp it enough to make sure it does not touch a TXP under any circumstance (like the 1070 against the 1080) and leave the TXP price as it is and just price it somewhere in between.

As time goes on making Titan XPs gets cheaper. Same goes for any tech really. They refine the process, etc. But yeah, those hoping for a cheaper card capable of equalling a TXP are going to be disappointed. You will pay every last dollar for every last FPS on your screen :(

AMD should really have ditched the kitchen sink (Async etc) but I guess it's too late now. It will be another gen or two before they actually show fruit from that. Same goes for HBM. It's uber expensive and if you fail on it you lose an entire die. They are going to pass that end cost onto the user (us) which is stupid because right now it does absolutely bugger all for gaming at less than 4k and the only 4k card that's actually powerful enough at the core is the XP and it uses GDDR5X, on paper nowhere near as good as HBM but Nvidia have the horses.

And that is what counts for PC games right now, horses. Give it a few years until the devs settle in with the new consoles, Vulkan and DX12? yeah, it will deffo show fruit but not yet.

AMD bolting HBM to a card and saying it's because of 4k but not having the balls to actually use it. Kinda like last time "Oh here is velly spenny HBM but f*** you you're only getting 4gb of it !"

I think their CPU lineup is the polar opposite of their GPU lineup.

IMO this is a smart move from Nvidia to offer a step up program for people who brought a 980Ti.

I think the 1080Ti are going to sell quite well.

I'm sticking with the 1080, If the 1080 Ti is going to clock to around the same as the 1080 or Titan XP which they seem to be in the same ball park clock wise, Then the 1080 Ti should be around 20% faster than the 1080 and personally I'd rather wait for the next new iteration of cards for a nice big perf boost and not just a slight increment.

Well this might work out well for me since my mate still hasn't paid me for my 980ti's and I can't get TXP here this might be the best solution for me

I'm not sure I agree that the first Vega will only be as fast as a 1070. Maybe in DX11 it will be around non-reference 1070 performance, but in DX12/Vulkan it should be considerably faster, which is slowly becoming the new benchmarking standard—Guru3D uses roughly 40% DX12/Vulkan benchmarks, and now they'll be able to use The Division's DX12 mode. The Fury X is as fast as a 1070 in DX12 and comes close in a couple of DX11 games (BF1, COD, and Mafia III being examples). Unless the new Vega chip is only something like $400, I personally feel it is going to be closer to a 1080. Also, why make a GPU only as fast as a 1070? The 1070 is already popular and has sold a great majority of its stock to its respective consumers. I personally want a slew of niches, not just direct competitors. There is a huge vacancy inbetween the 1060 and 1070, a big one between the 1070 and 1080 and another massive one between the 1080 and Titan XP. We know the 1080ti will likely fill in that last gap, but what about the other gaps?
