Nvidia Kepler schedule revealed & 680 rumor to release in February

We are still missing a lot of details, but according to the current schedule it looks like GK110, Nvidia's Kepler high end card, which should up with the Geforce GT 680 brand comes in April.

A chip called GK107, a much slower version of the same 28nm core, will show up in May, while the sexy performance market sweet spot part codenamed GK106 is planned for June. We still have no info when the most affordable part of this gang, codenamed GK108, comes to market.

Mobile parts should follow a different launch dynamic and we expect more than just one card in April. It looks like Nvidia wants to make a name in desktop with high-end parts and that mobile GPUs will have a much wider spectrum, simply because Nvidia has some 300+ design wins in the mobile segment and that they can make nice money off it.

Looks like we will be waiting a while for some Kelper benches, the mid to high range ones anyway.

Makes the decision of buying a new card harder now not knowing how Kelper will perform and whether to just go with an AM 7000 series card or not. Oh well, more time to save I suppose.

A rumour from Chinese forums Chiphell suggests that NVIDIA has pulled in the release of GeForce GTX 680 from the original plan of March/April to as early as late February.

The rumour claims GTX 680 will offer similar performance to AMD's Radeon HD 7970. Clock speed is 780 MHz - no higher than GTX 580 - while it sports 2GB memory. While this suggests a 512-bit or 256-bit memory bus, NVIDIA has in the past mated 1GB to 192-bit with GTX 550 Ti, so it is possible GTX 680 has a 384-bit memory interface. Little else is revealed about the mysterious GTX 680.

The source of the rumour is notable forum member Napoleon from Chiphell, who has a history of leaking GPU related information. That said, this is nothing but a rumour - amidst other conflicting rumours - and must be considered as such.

Which gives more credit to the above being true as well.

That will make one of my 470's almost exactly two years old. Perfect time to replace them.

Shame we have to wait though.

4xx's are very good today, my POV 480 will be 2 too, is it late March I think, I ordered it on release ! I'm not buying Kepler, because the console market is holding games back they'll do alot more time in pole position I mean I haven't problem running Crysis etc with 2 480's, the best games! + I cannot afford to justify an upgrade with my little money and limited spare time, so I wait for DX12 and wish you Keplerer's good luck

too much hype yet again!!!

a gtx680 ?????

there arent going to be any gtx6xx series gpus

(are there?)

EDIT:

"A rumour from Chinese forums Chiphell suggests that NVIDIA has pulled in the release of GeForce GTX 680 from the original plan of March/April to as early as late February."

!!! just read the first 22 words !!!

There is no hype, it's all speculation at the moment just like every other bit of tech news is, unless it's strait from the manufacturers mouth that is.

And I don't know why people are convinced there are no 6xx series cards, Nvidia hasn't said anything about the cards all we have are two leaked slides which are more than likely fake, also given the fact Nvidia hasn't even released specs of the cards. So anyone going off the idea that Kelper is going to be 7xx based off those slides should think twice.

And as for the Chinese rumors, most of the rumors (for everything) originate from China and places like ChipHell where this rumor comes from are usually correct.

It is rumored that NV will skip the branding and go straight to the 780.

No rumors have said that, the only reason people think it will be 7xx is because of those two slides. Nvidia have said their new mobile parts will be the 6 series but they never said anything about their GPUs.

Just like AMD, mobile and GPU parts share the same series numbers. Nvidia have not officially said one single word about Kelper, not one thing.

This is interesting to follow... true or false. Just waiting, like you said, gives me extra time to save some more money. I'm not popping on a 7970 yet because my gtx560ti sli is more than enough in most cases for me, right now.

I really am excited to see what nvidia brings to the table. The AMD cards are really impressive, though, as it stands. Even though my cards now are current generation, they are 560 ti's. So I'm wanting to up the ante a bit.

This ^^^^

Everything you see until the official release or official information should be taken with a pinch of salt though. The only thing with Kelper though is there still has been no official information given, it was different with AMD because we had specs and pics of the cards so we could gather most of the info from that.

I don't believe those two Kelper slides that were released previously, they don't make sense to me for a couple of reasons

1. When the first slide appeared Nvidia had already said they didn't have any sample cards so how could they even know performance results and why would they release performance results but not specs, without specs performance results mean nothing.

2. The first slide appeared when the performance results of the 7970 were leaked and the second one appeared just before the 7970 was released. A bit to coincidental if you ask me.

It is all speculation though and no one really knows whats true.

Rumours, speculation, hype, manufactors press release...it all means nothing.

I don't move until I watch a video with one being benched on TTL's diamastech!

There is a card coming, some places are saying February and some are saying March/April.

It would make sense for them to release a card in Feb because thats when the 7950 launches, AMD will have 2 next gen cards out and Nvidia none so they need to do something to gain a bit of the market back. No one knows anything about the cards except Nvidia though so no ones knows how close they are to release but they definitely aren't in a 480 situation anyway.
