VR-Zone has learned that the upcoming GeForce 7800 GT will be 20 pipes instead of 24 pipes as intially reported. The vertex shader could probably stay at 8 and ROP at 16. The core clock for 7800GT is 400MHz instead of 335MHz initially thought. It will be interesting to see if the 4 hidden pipes can unlocked on the 7800 GT to become GTX. The 7800GT is slated for launch on 11th Aug at Quakecon 2005 and MRSP for this card is US$449. Also NVIDIA won't release their 7800 Standard yet until their 6800 inventory are cleared.

I think that the pipelines can be unlocked using Rivatuner like the Vanilla 6800 because it's still using the same core as the 7800GTX so there is no restriction that the core doesn't support it. Also i think this is great if it's sli enabled because you could buy two of these at a cheaper price unlock their pipelines and you'll have a dual 7800GTX at a much cheaper price :D

That would be very nice indeed. Nice find.

Interesting... nVidia has chosen a strange level naming structure this go around. Wonder if we will still see a 7800nu.
