northbridge fan

i`ve put a 40mm fan on the northbridge blowing onto it,could anyone advise me if this is the best way,or would blowing away from it be better,thanks

I dont think its going to make too much difference really. Depending on where the intakes on your case are.

But 40mm? you ware earmuffs when the PC is on?
 
it`s fairly quite,got it out of an old sky box

That's my old pentium4 mobo :) the 40mm that it came with was waaaay too noisy and lasted a month or so before the bearings went and it was even more noisy :)

I just used an old akasa socket370 HSF I had in my spares. Think it was 6000rpm aswell, altho I ran it at half speed :)

Wouldn't of thought a fan would make much difference to a AW9D-Max tho as it has a massive heatpipe cooler. Surely the heatpipe carries the heat up to the power part of the mobo??

Personally, I'de say blowing away, however it won't be a big difference.

Why would 40mm be loud?
 
yeah it does but still gets a bit warm when upping the volts
