Do you have to leave a space in the top of your Reservoirs for air ? and why ?

For the down force. helping easier circulation for the pump!

Unfortunately unless you have an open top res, that effect doesn't work..
in a closed system (as it should be) you don't get atmospheric pressure pushing the liquid anywhere...

all depends on the rez imho my DD Monsoon is using both inlets and outlets so keeping it full is paramount to not allowing air in. While others where the ins and outs are lower it will make no difference. as long as there is fluid above the ins and outs leave a gap or dont its up to you.
