Hey guys so I understand that the Noctua is an AMAZING cooler. But , is it necessary for OCing an older processor and even then not Maxing it out?? It seems likes massive expense. It is probably worth more than the processor

Is there a cheaper alternative or would you all say the extra expense is justified??

I've had to cancel my new my new pc because of horrible service from the company I ordered from. Now I'm going to wait till after my wedding to get a new rig. Now I've got to make my old pc last another 6months. I've ordered a HD6950 to replace the old HD4850 now to squeeze a little extra out of the processor.

Thanks for the help in advance.

For the sake of an extra 10 or 15 quid its very justified. The fans it comes with alone are worth £30 seperately.

Also buying a Noctua D-14 is like an investment. This is the best air cooler on the market, so chances are even after a few years it will still be pretty close to the top. Meaning buy buying this one D14, you won't need to buy a CPU cooler for your future rigs, just chuck your Noctua on it, so in the long term you may end up saving money.

And as TTL said the fans themselves cost as much as half the cooler, so it's actually pretty good value if you look at it that way.

I just looked on the tinterweb and found out how truely massive that cooler is. £60 all in isn't a bad price either.

Thanks again for the help, I'll cry on here when I'm squeezing it into my PC case.

On a totally un related topic;

I have been reading about using a second/third Nvidia graphics card to run Physx. Now I know that ATI doesn't do Physx, but, is there any similar system of using a smaller ATI card to do some of the work and carry some of the load??

Seems a waste to just throw my good old HD4850 in a drawer.

Again thanks for insight.
