Next Mobo?

OK! so going to start building another computer, but... not sure what to do about the motherboard. It's going to mostly be a 3D graphics rendering/editing/creation machine. I do feel like sticking with Intel in my builds, but Bulldozer has a ton of hype surrounding it. Either way I am waiting for one of the next generation chips to come out. There is also a good chance I will go with a liquid cooled setup as well, even though I got a case that is designed specifically for air cooling

Anyway, when are the bulldozer and 2011 chips supposed to come out? I'm trying to wait, but I dont know how much patience I have and I might break down and end up making a SB build, but I would rather not.

Give me the POWWA to be strong and patient.

LGA 2011- Q4 2011

LGA 2011 is the socket with 2011 pins, and will launch at the same time as Sandy Bridge E (E for Extreme I believe (32nm)).

Ivy Bridge CPUs with a die shrink down to 22nm will also be released, probably Q4 2011 or Q1 2012.

Ivy Bridge will offer say 20% increase over the current Sandy Bridge CPUs.

I'm not sure about the gain from Sandy Bridge E, which I think is basically as fast as Intel is going to get 32nm to go before fully switching to Ivy Bridge and the 22nm.

Whereas Bulldozer performance is believed to be equivalent to the current Sandy Bridge CPUs (namely the i7-2600K).

Also bear in mind that Bulldozer, due to its structure, will be very good at handling multi-threaded applications, probably more so than the current Sandy Bridge, but will be slightly weaker with single-threaded applications (probably slightly slower than the current Sandy Bridge).

If you went with Sandy Bridge now on 1155, bear in mind that this is compatible with Ivy Bridge CPUs, so you will still have room for an upgrade to boost your performance if you needed.

LGA 2011 will of course be compatible with the Sandy Bridge E architecture, and will be the high end Intel motherboard.

Socket 2011: Sandy Bridge E (32nm) (New Enthusiast X58-style boards) (Both Q4 2011)

Hmm i havnt heard any of this, Now im wanting to hear more. Where are you resources for this info? I would love to make sure this to be true. And i thought there was a CRAP ton of Hype for the bulldozer? I mean all i see on forums is OH INTELL WAIT JUST A BIT LONGER BULLDOZER WILL CUT YOU... And i would love for that not to be true... and i would love to have LGA 1155 and 2011 compatible...

I'd just love me an ivy bridge system lol thought it wasn't till Q1 on 2012 it was for being released though still that gives me time to get funds for new build I vote waiting to see the real results for bulldozer and then decide waiting on 2011 seems like a REALLY long wait lol think of all the months of lovely CAD work your missing out on there lol

I do have a bit of modding, sleeving, and well a lot of work to do, I just dont know if I will be able to wait for the 2011 sockets to come out. And with all the problems in japan of late, I'm thinking that silicone will be pulling a premium price tag as well, so might have to make a SB build for now, then when 2011 comes out switch it over. Though I will wait and see how Bulldozer does.

I'm waiting for skynet to go aware. LOL . Just kidding I was going to wait for this new intel, but I had the funds ready around feb. So I took the chance and went 1366/x58. I have no regrets, dont want a SB, loving my 950 and maybe one day get a hex core. It's all I need.

I don't know what more to tell you :S As for resources, Intel road-maps have been leaked, as have AMD ones, a 20% increase from a die shrink 32nm-->22nm is to be expected, Intel have said there will be Sandy Bridge-E processors.

Some people tend to be very pro-Intel or very pro-AMD, so you always get some silly comments. In terms of how Bulldozer will stack up to Sandy Bridge is in essence speculation, but even if AMD were being optimistic, you would expect Bulldozer to be there or thereabouts. Remember how everyone hyped up the AMD 6000 series GPUs, and so on, its always the same.

Ivy Bridge will most likely come out in Q1 2012, but I wonder if the performance of Bulldozer might affect anything

yeah i currently have an x58 platform. wich is why i want to wait for 2011. I love my triple channel memory. well, maybe I'll just make this one another x58 build. only problem is that none of the motherboards that I want have the proper color scheme. I'm open to any and all recommendations at this point.
