New X2...

First X2 was, well a bit crap 2.5ghz on 1.48v stable. Pretty poor for a 3800, stepping wasn't the best though.

When Persivore phoned saying he'd found a 0601 LDBHE couldn't resist saying yes! Especially since its also a low batch chip, and *shouldn't* be cold bugged..

He sent up a few screenies last night, and its looking good so far, seems nice and stable at 2.9 tad over 1.5v. These are pretty much boot and go settings though, so little room for tweaking.

Nice CPU-z screeny too, windows was usable at this speed, so with more volts....

Great for people with 3800+ x2's (£225 each) as now they know that with a phase cooler they can surpass FX60 speeds (£700).

Get a phase unit for £400 (like the one I just sold) add a £225 CPU and up up and away!!

Of course with the lower cache clock for clock the 3800 will be a little slower in real world applications - but boy oh boy - look at the performance using phase - the user can continue to buy selected lower cost CPU's and mix it up with the big boys.

So people know - 3dmark 06 with this set-up will be faster than a FX57 @ 3.4Ghz (assuming the same graphics cards are used lol).

If I am not mistaken - Extremeprometeia offer a starter phase package with an x2 3800 clocked to 2.8ghz as standard with your choice of GPU ;)

Mav are you in business mode again? Sound so much like a salesman in that post lol. Almost trying to convince yourself to get one ;)

I also think that saying it WILL beat an FX57 is a little optimistic. I think it should be theorectically it will beat it, but may not depending on who's tweaking the system.

Nice chip tho I have to say. I'm still happy with my FX55, I'll upgrade eventually.

Only in 06 though (its dual core optimised you see) ;)

The mach thing is right though - turns an 'also ran' budget CPU (kidderminster Harriers of processors) into a UEFA contender (Bolton Wanderers), once you have a mach (and if benchies is not, but gaming is your thing) you only have to splash out once - after that you can go back to spending cash elsewhere and just buy a 'regular' CPU from then on in that will run as well as the top of the range (at stockish clocks).

Cost justified Prometeia 2 - simple ;)

Yes but its still too much of a bold statement to say it WILL beat it. If you can't prove it WILL beat it I always say that its speculation until proved otherwise ;)

However I can say the FX55 and 7800GTX's in my hands WILL beat your scores with the same stuff cos I'm gonna make it my goal to lol. You will be knocked off the FX55 top spot if it takes me 6 months to do it or not lol. Mwahahaha, competition time :D

P.s. O, batiré sus cuentas con nuevo del hardware.

maybe. maybe not.

The point I am trying to make here is that a phase cooler makes perfect sense to anyone wanting to turn a budget/mid range CPU into a contender.

I have a plan to prove this ;)

Reference beating my scores........ bring it on!! (proceeds to delete all optimised threads sharing Mav's secrets :))

yea, but everyones knows this makes perfect sense????

I and lots of others have been clocking 3000's/3200's for ages under phase and seeing 3ghz+

its not a new phenomenon, i thought that was the main selling point of phase change. it takes an ordinary chip into a top of the range one :B

I played with the Tempest before I took it to cpc for review I must say the 3800x2 was a very very nice chip even clocked at 2.8 it was still blisteringly fast........hmm I may get one myself I still dont own an x2 chip yet:O

P.S so your other x2 wasn't that good Highland3r looool

Tis true the Tempest (x2 3800 @ 2.8Ghz - CPC approved 87%) scored 1.55 in the CPC benchmarks and that was with maxtor hard disks, not the new Hitachi ones supplied now, probs be closer to 1.60 now :)

Any ideas what a 3800 X2 might do under air?

I'm going to build a new PC for my parents soon hopefully, and was going to get a 3800 X2 and see if it could squeeze a bit more out of it without making it loud. Will give me a chance to try out a Vapochill Micro as well, though i havent decided what fan to use with it yet.

2.6ghz on 1.4v a lot of the new ones are doing. they seem to be clocking well

225 @ stock voltage here on air.. not pushed it yet as i didnt have the RAM to. Gonna pick my new stuff up tmrw and ill see what we can do!

just re-read my above post and it makes my chip sound crap.. it has done 2.7ghz in windows but the ram didnt like it and it flopped...

It's below average on water, 2.5ghz 1.48v. However just found out theres an SP2004 bug which can cause it to fail on 1 core after a few secs.

Though havent run it under phase, should be good for 2.8ghz at least most likely.

Just had some more news on the new chip, burning in at 2.88 on 1.45v atm

pfft my 3800x2 kicks the dirt in the tempests eyes. Custom pc leaderboard NUMBER 7 w00t. Just need raptors to beat you mav, fancy lending me one? Ran it at 3.3ghz for the custom pc benchmark but have had it all the way up to 3504mhz which is equaling the world record. 3ghz is stable at 1.45v but needs quite a bit more to go 3.3ghz+

okay two things @ Phil123:

Congrats on score and overclock mate

and no, buy your own :).

FX60 scores gonna come calling on that test soon though so that should be fun - plus might add a score of me own on an x2 doing 3.3+ ghz, watch this space for more details.

yeah cant wait mav going to have loads of fun when my custom chilly 1 gets here. grey mole modded. if i can run custom pc @ 3.4 ghz stable will be really happy. but not happy when ur scores come sailing by. ;)

I recently picked up an 3800 myself. The stepping turned out to be LDBHE 0605DPMW. I've not seen anything of these 05 week LDBHEs, so if anyone has some info on how these clock I'd be very grateful. :)

best way mate is just having a do yoursel :) ive got an x2 3800 under air cooling and i managed to get a suicide shot at 2.85~ @ 1.55v ish sitting stable at 260mhz htt 2600mhz with my ocz rev2s at 260mhz 2.5 4 4 11

im having problems getting my ram higher at a 1:1 ratio which is hindering my overclock and secondly my biostar wont allow me to change the chipset and ldt volts which hinders me for big ocs...

3.3GHz and you couldnt take no.1? Dear oh dear..... :p with 150MHz advantage over Mav you got no excuses! :D (jesting)
