Hi all, me and my dad were talking about his company new computers which they will be ordering next week. They normal get there new stuff off Dell, but Dell are terrible i told him lets build some our selves. My dad worked at a digital design firm that use the Adobe suit primevally so the computers have to be powerhouses he gets the money tomorrow so we will probably go and get hem this weekend. Just thought i would run the specs passed you guy see what you think and any suggestion about changes would be nice.

This first machene will be working 24/7 on 3D rendering whitch is a huge task do you think the components will be up to the task

This machine will be a work station where the images are created and the product gets touched up and stuff (i do no am not the expert) LOL

My dad says they may order 3 or 4 of these so if there's anything wrong with it plz tell me.

This is where everything will get stored, again running 24/7 we will be getting a RAID card but just not from Aria.

So what do you guys think, if we can save money in any place please tell me, my dad and his work colleges are after the best of the best but saving a little money hear and there isn't a bad thing. Thanks to all of you in advance for you help

If you're going to get a good RAID card you should be able to make do with H55 on your server and an i3, then you can ditch the graphics card as well

If you're spending this much D14's would be the way to go for the workstations as well

580 Twin Frozr OC is a good choice, one of the best out there atm

For the workstations why 2 solid states and 3 hard drives in each if everything is stored on the server?

The server will have all the backups on it the workstations will keep all the work on them and the server will be updated everyday with all the new work done that day. I say put a D14 in the workstation be my dad likes the dark rock pro

As punishment you could make him fit it

I would go with mushkin ram

nh-d14 on the second rig

corsair psus

for the server maybe have a look at the gladiator bundles from aria to save some money

instead of the velociraptor maybe a ssd or a WD caviar black?

for those size monitors i would look into the 3gb Gtx 580 models such as:

http://www.scan.co.u...l-dvi-i-dp-hdmi

http://www.pixmania....-phantom-3.html

The bequiet PSU's are just as good if not better than the corsair one's that why i am sticking to them (and they look cool)

The 580's with 1.5GB of ram are fine for those monitors, my dad has been using 2 30" monitors on 4 gtx460 for over a year now and he says they are fine.

The data server is fine the way it is, it is a bit overpowered but is's going to have to last for over 2 may by 3 years so the components are fine. I mean the data they are storing is around 5gb a file.

As i have mentioned i want him to use the D14 but he likes the dark rock PRO.

The timings on the corsair ram is a lot faster than the mushkin and that Kingston ram is just amazing, if its any good (the review says it is) that will be the RAM all the computers eventually end up use.

Last thing I would say is you don't need the 1600 MHz RAM on the server and with the money you get from that and downgrading to an i3 on the server you could get 2133 HyperX on the workstations instead of 1866 dominators. Making them that little bit better.

Went and got most of the stuff today and man o man this is cool. We still have to wait for the motherboards but o well. This is what we finally got, this s**t is so cool.

My dads boss had a look at the workstations we put together and he liked them so he told us to order 6 more, All of them will have NH-D14 and will be rapid when all put together.

Thanks to you guy for sugesting that we downgrade to a i3, we got a raid card of another site which should get hear on Wednesday. If you are wondering what raid card we go it was a Areca ARC-1261ML.

We put the three gtx580 in a SR2 mobo and the performance of these cards is amazing, They run cool and quite even on load and they managed to render a 30second 3d scene in about 20mins. Now that many sound alot the the scene was at 4K resolution WOW

So what do you guys thing insane or what, i cant complain i got 4 gtx 460 out of this which i have already sold for £400 (will be having a fun night out this weekend) Would you guys have done anything different if so plz tell me my dad's company upgrades all the time.

The server: didn't need a graphics card, but in all honestly what's 50 quid compared to what you've spent

The workstations: freaking amazing

The renderer:

I forgot to add in the screen shots that the rendering machine is in 3way sli not.

For the workstation and renderer, you should have gone with a Nvidia Quadro or AMD Firepro card over the GTX 580. Those cards are workstation class cards whose drivers are optimized for 3D rendering, photo and video editing, all that good workstation stuff. You also get much better support service with those cards. Sure, for gaming they aren't good, but you shouldn't be gaming on those machines anyways
