my screen arrived today and i have just hooked it up, so far i have noticed that cirtain text characters are slightly blurry, is there any sort of tests i can do to discover faulty / dead pixels and areas?

cheers guys

Enable a thing called ClearType. Right click your desktop and hit properties. Then click the Appearance tab. Click the Effect's button and under the Text Rendering drop down, click Clear Type. Click ok, ok, ok etc.. then your fonts should be much clearer. :D

if you look around,or even make 3 pictures of solid colors(blue, green and red)

to the size of your desktop and load them up in full screen,it should help you detect dead pixels...it worked on my old psp:p

and to the blurry-ness,when i set my 17"crt to 1280x1024 some writing gets blurry(its a generic crt so crap)

by anychance is your new tft crap or a not so well know manufacturer?

hth,cheers.

are u hooked up via d-sub or dvi? if d-sub u need to do the auto adjustment from ur monitor to clear up the blurry text issue if it only happens in certain areas. also, cleartype actually blurs the text to give it a more smooth look, I prefer the clean crisp edges on text with cleartype off. have u tried it w/o cleartype?

is your one dead pixel in an annoying area or somewhere fairly non conspicuous?

which monitor did u end up with anyhow mate? I must have missed it.

grrr, all of a sudden, when i start up CSS i get a black screen with a message saying 'pc out of frequency 60Hz-85Hz' i have tried setting my nv drivers to all freqs in between and it still aint working

Is your pixel dead or just stuck on? Dead pixels are black; blue, green and red are just stuck on. Which model is your Daewoo Llwyd; and you're saying it won't let you have your monitor at 1280 x 1024 @ 75Hz? weird

Dead pixels can also be white too PV. They have a different name tho, I forgot.. oh here we go. According to about.com, it's a "stuck" pixel... haha what you just said. Here's a quote from them.

Aboot.com said:
A dead pixel is defined as a pixel or set of sub-pixels that has failed and is permanently in the off position. This condition means that the pixel will not let any light through. This can be observed as a dark or black spot on a brightly colored or white background.

A stuck pixel is defined as a pixel or sub-pixel that has failed and is permanently in the on position. This can be either with a single or multiple sub-pixels for a given pixel and is best observed on a dark or black background. A white pixel means all three sub-pixels have failed while a green, red or blue pixel means one of the sub-pixels has failed.

Linky to Article: http://compreviews.about.com/od/multimedia/a/LCDPixelDefects.htm Hmm.. it seems as though I have two stuck pixels on my PSP, and when looking at a dark background on my cell phone, I have a cluster of little white dot's. This, is why I don't buy LCD's ;). Then again, my dad's Dell Ultrasharp 1907FP has no dead pixels...

Daewoo HL711, the pixel is stuck on red and is very irritating, windows is at 1280x1024 @ 60Hz and working so i dont want to mess with it seeing as it took forever to put back yesterday

Woah, that's gotta be hard on the eyes :( Have you tried changing or forcing your resolution in DirectX? Are you using DVI to DVI? What drivers and gfx card are you running. You should by all accounts be able to run 1280 x 1024 @75 Hz with that monitor.

Both of mine run 1280 x 1024 @ 75 Hz - Viewsonic and Polyview. Forget I said anything

Calm down Peevs ;)

I've used 6 TFT's with a native res of 1280 x 1024 and all have had 60Hz as the refresh rate :)
