Hi guys, wanted to try out folding haven't gotten to it till last night. I downloaded the systray one and started it on the Redline team.

oh and i noticed on some threads here that you need system specs to help out, so here goes (don't laugh its old, and i'm saving up for the summer for a first full complete rig) but for now its a Pentium D, 3Ghz with 3GB of ram and i put a 8500gt in there years ago...

Now for my questions:

I have set it up like the site says but even when i'm not doing anything on the computer, FAH is only using 50-55% of the CPU??? and its not like the anything is getting to hot (max CPU temps are 62*Celsius, and i even tried setting a higher (up to normal) priority for FAH...

Next how and when can i see the progress i'm making and/or contributing to the team??

THANKS, i'll keep u updated

You can see the teams and your progress here

I'll let SnW or someone else help you with the tracker, not sure what it could be.

Also, welcome to the team

Thanks for the fast reply, but i checked that link and i'm not there??? weird, i'm using the same user-name as in this forum , u can see (or not see to be more accurate) my name.

But still thanks

You have to finish 1 WU and wait for the site to update before your name will show. The site updates every hour on the hour so when you finish your first WU check on the site around quarter past the hour after you have finished it.

Have you completed a WU yet?

You will only show up in the ranks when the first unit is uploaded and processed by Stanford and EOC.

Also the Systray CPU client doesn't support multiple core CPU's that's what the SMP client is for.

You could even try and fold on your GPU, IIRC Nvidia 8 series and up are supported.

I would advise you to download a tool called GPU tracker. It can be found here. You will need to enable SMP in there if you want to fold on several cores. If you just want to use one just use the CPU. The program will monitor your progress for you.

Oh thanks guys

I'm guessing that a WU is when it finishes the 250 (in this specific case) i'm just at 227/250 ATM so i have to wait and see.

So i need the SMP client to use more of my CPU hummm.. i'll try that tonight (but i'm not gonna use the GPU yet, it tends to heat up fast and i'm just starting out

maybe with next build)

thanks for the help and the link

Alright, so i followed that link and downloaded the tracker, it also gave me the option to download the SMP and GPU clients so i did but that just put a ton of different files, just confusing.

I did start the SMP (I think, it's the consol version) and it started doing something, but it wasn't showing up on the tracker and still didn't use 100% of CPU ...

I'm gonna delete everything and try to do this again step by step

Just follow this guide exactly - http://fahtracker.com/setup.html

You should be up and running in no time

Yes! Up and running now, been at 100% for the last 30min

hehehe

Quick question, I'm running a project on my 8500gt, and it's at 2% but the SMP is still at 0% just wondering if it's normal to have it stay at zero for this long.

Thanks again (hope temps don't pass the 70's, right now haven't seen anything above 69 on gpu and 64 on cpu)

The SMP is a much slower Client than the GPU, it's normal to staying at a % for longer. Welcome to the Team.

That Pentium D might take quite some time to complete a WU......leave it run a while and check progress against the unit deadline to see if it will complete on time.

Yea it is slow... How do I check deadlines for the WU? It just hit 1%, dammm but the GPU is at 5% now with a crazy 547.7 PPD --------> LOL kinda sad really

No way, that thing has to be wrong... I'm working on project 6041 Which is worth 1395 points, and using a rough calculation it will take me 5 days to finish giving my CPU a 279PPD... I wish it was 577 like that site said

But that's still ok, deadline is 6 days

Nvm it just got to 3% and Tracker V2 is showing 716 PPD..... haha so a total of 1264 total PPD.

Hope this helps the team a little bit to go up a bit in the rankings
