Hi,

I have finally finished my new PC build.

I have installed Win 7 on the SSD but I now have the predicament that I want to use the programs on the old HDD.

Is this possible or is it a case of wiping the old hdd and re-installing all the programs on to it? (There is a lot of steam games on the old hdd)

Thanks everyone.

You can just copy the program install folders and put them in a folder on your HDD, you will have to make new shortcuts from the folder though. You may need to reinstall some programs though as they might not work if copied over but most should it's the way I did it anyway.

I tried just using them as usual but it didn't work. I am now taking ownership of the drive (Which I should have done in the first place) so I will let you know if this sorts it.

i have just done the same thing last week. if you want to run/use the programs on your HDD, then youre gonna have to have a nose around your HDD and find the launcher shortcuts for those programs and make shortcuts to your desktop (right click and send to desktop shortcut) . you can just find the desktop shortcut folder on your HDD drive and move them to the desktop shortcut folder on you SSD, but i found that not all of them worked when i went to use them for some reason

I opted to redownload the programs onto your SSD (your itunes, steam, windows live mail, firefox etc) and go from there, it might be a lil more time consuming, but in the long term, you are making maximum use of your SSD speed capabilities so not only will you boot up nice and quick, your programs will open super fast as well :-)

I also backed up my firefox bookmarks and my live mail message to a usb stick beforehand, then when you have re downloaded those progs to your ssd you can import them, so your not starting from scratch so to speak

yeah looks like it was a permissions issue.

I dont really want all my progs on the SSD (its only 240gb) im just going to put my main ones on there.

Thanks for the help guys
