New Server

Hmmmmm, do i buy this dell server for £190.

Its a dell poweredge t105 with the following specs;

Quad opteron 2.1Ghz

2x 80GB HDD (no raid)

1GB of ddr667 (will support ddr800)

Now this server will be for at home, i'll obviously upgrade the hdd and ram. It will be my main DC running DHCP, Exchange and hyper-v. Perhaps put 8gb of ram in.

Looking at £80 for 8GB of ddr800 and about £160 to 2 1tb hdd.

its brand new, i would presume there 7200 sata's.

Looks like a nice server mate 2x1TB, in what RAID would you be putting that? Might be an idea to use 3x1GB raid5 for the redundancy.

Make sure to install F@H SMP on it

it only holds 2 hard drives. I'll just put them in raid 1. i'll rebuild my current mini server into a NAS. so my tb's of films/tv/music will be on there.

Price seems decent enough. How much space is there inside ?

Curious how this would perform as a regular pc with the stuff u add and can add.

hmmm, i know. I have a few money issues again So it's going to have to wait.

bugger, i missed the boat. Nowhere seems to have them in stock now. O well. I'll keep my eyes out.

In the end i bought a HP ML110 G5, its a dual core xeon 2.33GHz with 1gb ddr800 ecc ram and a single 250gb hard drive. Paid £200 for it.

Just bought 8gb ddr800 ecc ram from crucial for £100 and a 1tb hard drive. Will be setting it up in the next few days with server 08 and hyper-v
