New Secondary Monitor

Hey guys, I haven't posted in a while. A little background as to why I want a second monitor. I'm in my final year of university and I feel like a second monitor would help me greatly with all my reports and stuff, being able to have my report open on one monitor and research papers on the other. I have no intention of gaming over two monitors, as my current one does fine with it.

I was hoping to find a good 23-24 inch monitor, that has a IPS panel (this is just personal preference), 1080P, a display port isn't necessary, and ideally the response time wont be too high. I'm working with a £120-£150 budget. I'm currently looking at http://www.scan.co.uk/products/23-i...i-dvi-vga-1920x1080-250cd-m2-5m1-5ms-speakers or http://www.scan.co.uk/products/23-a...a-mhl-1920x1080-250cd-m-50m1-6ms-black-silver or would I be best off spending a bit more and getting with it's adjustable stand http://www.scan.co.uk/products/23-p2314h-dell-professional-led-ips-displayport-dvi-vga-usb-1920x1080-250cd-m2-2m1-vesa

I'm using 3 of the AOC panels mate and IMOH they're awesome for the money, mine at least have no light bleed at all and are 100% pixel perfect. With all 3 the out of the box picture setting were almost perfect, with only the gamma needing to be slightly tweaked, and with all 3 the pictures were identical to look at. The only thing though is that although there is no side bezel, there is a 8mm black border on the edge of the screen. And the speakers suck.

They come with a nice little app for the picture settings so you haven't got to fiddle with the crappy buttons, which is a nice touch it also has a few other software tricks too, but I can't remember what they are. actually one of them I think was to be able to have different sectors on the screen at different brightnesses, so if you have a couple of tabs open one being a document, you can have it brighter to read more easily.

For me the selling point was the fact I needed display port for Eyefinity and when I was looking they were £130 each, but a local shop was closing down and they had 3 for a £100 a pop, so I jumped at the chance. I haven't been disappointed with them at all mate.

I have found the Samsung SyncMaster B2430 to quite good. Only downside is it lacks HDMI, having only DIV and VGA

I have also found the the Samsung SyncMaster B24B350 to be quite disappointing.

A Samsung SyncMaster 2233 was adequate (much better then the B24B350), but it cunked-out on me recently. However, I blame the cat for the monitor going bad.

Had an AOC a little while back, firmware went bad after a few years. It also ran very hot and consumed considerably more power then the B2430.

I recommend the B2430 - but I caution about samsung in general because with all their products there are so many slight variations it can be hard to know exactly what you are getting. For instance, last I checked, there were like nearly 30 different s3 phone varieties, although all have the moniker 's3'. In their phones, all that samsung manufacturers is the LCD (and the brand ip of course). I can only imagine same is true with their monitors.

I found the really helpful as I don't really know anyone who has owned an AOC monitor so I am kind of wary of them, but this makes me think now that they know what they're doing. I's something I'll take in to consideration when I'm buying my monitor.

They've been around for years, but are just kind of making a name for them selves more over the last few years. I was unsure about them, until I saw one in person and my mind was made up straight away. They're considered a more on the cheap side of a brand but the build quality is great, they haven't skimped on materials at all. One thing I didn't mention was the stand, like 90% of monitors it's not great but for 130 quid what can you expect.
