New Sandybridge-E build

That looks good but I would make some changes also I have some questions.

Firstly how much video rendering will you be doing? If its only going to be the odd video and your pc is mostly for gaming I wouldnt recommend the 3930k. It is a beast of a cpu and I have one myself but I am making one to two videos everyday and thus the extra performance is needed. Plus I will be using my pc for college so I will be using cad, sketchup and photoshop at the same time for presentations. If you are mostly going to be gaming with it then get something like one of the new ivy bridge cpus which I have heard are better for gaming and save some money for other stuff which I will get to later.

As for the motherboard are you planning on doing overclocking or not. If not then the rampage is kind of a waste of money hell I am running an asus sabertooth and my 3930k is running fine at 4.6 ghz at 1.336v in cpuz. The rampage has some nice feature but ask yourself do you really need it other than for bragging rights much like the 3930k.

As for the ram I have 16gb of vengence ram and its really nice. I have no problems with saying to someone to go get 16gb atm as its fairly cheap.

The corsair H100 is a very good cooler and I have one myself.

Now the wd caviar black as I have said to others in the past I wouldnt recommend. I recommend saving your money and get a green then put that money and some extra cash into either a second ssd or a larger one. Your ssd should run your operating system, games and any vital for loading apps. Things like mumble/vent wont really benefit from the ssd so throw them on the hdd with all your media. The reason I said go for the green is its cheaper and since youll be running the main items off the ssd all thats left really is apps that wont benefit really from the extra speed and media. I have a seagate barracuda green and I stream movies off my pc and onto my ps3 and even when fast forwarding or skipping chapters I have no issues with lagging video or anything.

The corsair force gt is good and I have one but I am not too knowledgeable about the reliability so I will leave that to someone else.

The gtx 680 is a good card but I wouldnt recommend it even though I have one myself. Get a 670 instead it is similar in performance and it is cheaper.

Case is subjective so get what you like and get one with enough space for all the components and for the H100 if you go that route.

The powersupply is a great one from what I have read off others on here and I was planning on getting one myself but I just used my old pcs one after realising I wont need that pc anymore.

As for the monitor do you need 27 inches? If your willing to sacrifice a little size then aim for a 120hz monitor. It will make gaming so much smoother and nicer to play on. I have a benq xl2410t myself and would recommend it as its kinda cheap atm.

Peripherals are subjective, a mouse will feel different to different people and so will mousemats. If your planning on buying all this online then try get into a computer shop that sells the mice your looking at and get a feel for them. Hard through the packaging I know but some mice look good in pictures but can turn out to be too small for your hands or uncomfortable. If your gonna be gaming for hours then comfort is key to a good experience. Check out this thread for my opinions on mouse mats.

Now if you do go along with the changes I made then with the money saved things that I would add are.

A decent sound card. This will help improve games a lot. It will clean up and make sounds in games better, it will help with pinpointing enemies in fps games.

A decent headset is very helpful for competitive gaming or just online gaming with mates. Something like a sennheiser pc350 or pc360 are good headsets. I have the 350 myself and love them, the 360's are open eared so they will make more noise in your room but your ears will breath easier so you wont get all hot and sweaty. The choice is up to you if you go for one of those, others are available.

Now things you may want to add are a second graphics card or a second monitor.

Maybe if there is enough money left over go down the water cooling route as it can make your pc look very cool and cool it very well.

Now I am no expert on computers but thats what I would recommend from what I have read on here and on the web about the different parts. I recently built my 2nd pc in 5 years about a month ago so I was doing a lot of reading up on parts.

Open to correction on the above if someone feels the need to.

Well I will be doing approx 1 video a day but I will also be doing some photoshoping and rendering 3D models, I looked at ivybridge but I decided to go with the sbe because it is better for what I need and I have the money, that was the reasoning behind my choice.

Yes I shall be doing some overclocking, I want to see what I can get out of the 3930k, the reason I chose this board was mainly that it is a beast board , its really good for overclocking, it looks like a tank in the 600t, and it has a copy of bf3 in it, I thought of getting other boards but I just kept levitating back to the rampage 4, so I just decided to go for it.

I have never looked at the wd green but I see what ur saying, I think im going to swap the wd black for a green as I can get a 2tb and still save money, and then im going to get a bigger ssd, im going to go for a 240gb I think, this way I can store most of my programs, games and my os on it. Thanks for the advice on the hdd it has really helped.

Yerr I have decided to go with the 670 now.

The monitor wasn’t really decided and I just picked one based on the aesthetics, I’m not that knowledgeable with monitors so I do need some help getting a decent monitor, ill have a look at that benq one now.

There are no computer shops where I live so it is quite hard for me to try mouse’s but I did attend gadget show live and I tried a lot of different mouse’s including the razer mamba, dethadder and the steelseries sensai, out of all of them I preferred the sensai, and it also looks very nice so im going with that, keyboard wise im still undecided.

I have already got a ASUS Xonar from an old build so I will be using that.

A decent headset is defiantly what I need, the only ones I have looked at are the razer megladone, and the steelseries sibiria v2, not really sure on these either, I did like the looks of the pc350, and im used to the closed ear headsets as I play a lot on my xbox with my turtle beach.

Thanks for all of the advice man.

No worries man thats why I posted to help you out.

Seems you will be using your 3930k like me for the same programs so you will love it.

I still think the rampage is overkill but if your happy with it thats the main thing. As I said though my sabertooth has my 3930k running at 4.6 stable and all I really needed to do was up the multi and tweak the voltage and power settings. Very easy to overclock and runs fine, I would like to go for 5ghz but I dont want to atm maybe if I ever go water cooling.

Anyway man have a look at the things you wanted to like the monitor and get back to us on what you decide.

As for the pc 350s they are a very very good gaming headset. Not brilliant for music but they are still good for that too. They do come into their own when gaming though. The 360s are just as good but have a slightly different design to the ears so they will leave more noise out at the expense of cooling for your ears. I dont know much about the new headsets but there are others out there that are just as good. I just recommend the pc350s because I have them and am very happy with them.

I would 100% agree with this, after looking over the specs again I would advise changing out the Vengeance RAM for the Samsung green memory. The Vengance memory is good memory however for the little bit extra I would get the Samsung Green RAM, its great RAM and overclocks like a beast. I have seen people get this RAM running at 2133MHz, its amazing stuff, I am looking to use this in my next build.

Good choice the 2 x 670's will give awesome performance, I would definitely stick with EVGA though as they offer great warranty and should you wish to WC the cards later down the line you can do so without voiding your warranty. The 8GB will help when your rendering your videos etc and for the little extra it will make a noticeable difference.

As for mechanical keyboards, you should always go with what feels best to you, the main reason I suggested the Corsair K90 was due to hearing bad things about the Razer Black Widow, I must say I have seen the Black Widow and the gloss finish makes it a complete finger print magnet, so I would bear that in mind. If you like the Cherry MX Blue switches there are other keyboards on the market such as the Qpad MK-80 which use the switches which may be worth looking at. Good choice on the Sensai I am going to be getting one myself shortly. It would be worth investing in a mouse mat to use with the mouse something like the Steelseries Qck series mousemats, just pick the one you like.

As for SSD's, I am a big fan of Corsair products however personally I would chose another SSD, something like the Crucial M4 or the Samsung 830 series SSD's, these are well know to be some of the most reliable on the market and some of the fastest in real world tests. Out of the Samsung and the Crucial I would go for the Samsung personally as its faster and looks aesthetically better for me personally.

Fair enough with the speakers, however you may annoy some people with the click from the Cherry MX Blues.

Headset wise I would look at the Corsair Vengeance 1300's, Steelseries Siberia V2's or the Sennheiser P360s if you want to spend that much. But make sure you pair them with a good sound card, something like the Asus Xonar series cards, maybe the D2X, very good sound quality.

I must agree with the above, didn't notice it before but I would agree with changing the WD Black drive to a WD Green drive for the extra money, its not worth the little performance gain, considering your SSD will be your primary drive and the WD drive will probably be the storage drive. I would get a green drive and spend the money on a bigger SSD or something. I have got a WD green drive and it has been excellent. I would advise looking around as there are some great deals that come about on 2TB drives if you look.

I would definitely stick with the 600T great case for the money and plenty of room for upgrades. Tom build a rig for Hayleywow in one with similar specs, take a look here: http://forum.overclo...-the-wow-e-rig/

If you want to get a really nice looking rig, I would look at getting some sleeved extensions, something like the Bitfenix Alchemy cables, or the Corsair cables for the AX850.

If you have some money over it may be worth looking at investing in some Noctua NF-F12's for the H100, you can possibly get push pull on the rad if you wish in the 600t. Take a look at this:

Hope the above helps.

Yerr I had a good look at this RAM and I like it, and in a weird way a prefer the aesthetics of it and it helps that the RAM is all black with a black PCB, its only a bit more money so I think im going to go with the Samsung ram, im gona overclock the balls of it J

Yerr when looking at unboxing’s and reviews on yt they all say that evga is the best so im gonna stick with them, they should perform well and ill be able to get some good benchmarks.

The main reason I went for the black window is that I have used one at gadget show live and I really liked the feel and I really really like the aesthetics of the keyboard, but im gonna take a good look around at different keyboards. I do like the MX Cherry Blue switches, so I will have a look at the qpad. Yerr I love the sensai and I already have a steelseries qck +, I love it I don’t think I will ever change.

Yerr I have revised the ssd and I think im going to go with the Samsung 830 240gb drive as I like the look of it and there are positive reviews of the drives.

Lol, I have started to have a good look at different headsets now, I like the loks of the pc360 but it is a bit pricy, I also like the look of the Siberia v2 and its not that bad price wise, ive also been looking at the razer megladone, not sure if its any good but it does look very nice, and I have used one at gadget show at I really liked it. Plus I already have a soundcard from a old rig, it’s the ASUS Xonar.

Yerr that really helped with the hdd I have decided to go with the wd green now and go for the 2tb version, and with the money I save im going to go with a bigger ssd, so I can store all my games, progs and my os on it.

Yerr I remember seeing the video and reading th post for tht, that is where I got the inspiration for my build from because I really liked the looks of it. At I was going to get some of the bit fenix alchemy cables, the red ones so it goes nicly with the board and again I got that from the video of hayleywow’s rig.

that video has really swayed me, I wasn’t really fussed about the fans on the h100, and if I was going to get any it would have been the bit fenix spectre pros but after seeing that I think I might pick up a few of those fans, they are awesome.

Thanks for all the advice. It has helped a lot.

Yerr seems so and I hope so.

Im hoping to get mine to 4.6ghz and then pretty much stay there, I might experiment a little just to see what I can get out of it, maybe 4.8ghz or something like that.

I had a look at the monitor and I really like the look of it and I think that I might sacrifice the 3inches for the extra 60hz, that should make the games look crystal clear and maybe buy another in the future.

Headset wise im still undecided I did like the look of the pc350’s and if they are as good as you say they are then I think I will go with them, im gonna do a little more digging into gaming headsets and then make a fully informed decision.

Thanks again for all your help!
