New router

I had the netgear 3700 a while back. It worked OK but sometimes when I would get home and turn on the computer I wouldn't have internet access, I would try my phone, no signal, I would have to reset the router to get it to work again and it would drop signal while I was surfing, very frustrating!!

It was my first netgear product, maybe I got a bad one, but after a few weeks of this it went live someplace else and a LINKSYS E4200 lives in it's place now. It has been rock solid, I got 3 phones , TV, computer, PS3, and a Blu-ray player all on it.

The one thing I did like about the netgear was it could be mounted virtical on the included stand, which gave me better range (when it worked)over the linksys, but it may just be the linksys conserving energy, cause it can give me my full internet speed to any device, wired or wireless without any issuses. The netgear seemed to throttle speeds as the signal dropped.

Hi Guys,

Just add my comments to this, as money has already been spent. I've run D-link, Linksys, Netgear, Cisco (early 11Mbps Aironet), Billion and Draytek and the only ones I could recommend excluding the cisco (as the prices have become prohibitive) would be the Billion and the Draytek. The Billion actually paid for itself in the first 4 months as it's capable of logging SNR's on ADSL lines, and showed that the BT Local loop circuit was so flakey as to provide no service 54% of the time, for which a refund was made and the line was sorted.

Cheers

Lee
