New rig sluggishness- help!

My new rig (shown in my signature, all timings except FSB set to 'AUTO') seems a little slow in windows; booting into it it takes a bit longer than I'd like (the start button, quicklaunch and system tray are all blanked out for a little while and programs are very slow to respond for a minute or so after) and generally (even when it's been on for hours) some folder navigation seems sluggish; I go to open some folders and there's a second or so pause/freeze before it actually opens it up- very annoying, and not something that my 3500+ did...

I wanted to blame my BIOS settings for the RAM but I fail to believe this could be the problem as when I manually set my timings to the standard 4-4-4-15 it got even MORE sluggish (the AUTO mode seems to have them at 5-4-5-9).

Here's the thing with the current release of CPU-Z; it doesn't seem to like my mobo/BIOS as it reports i have 2048mb (correct) in Dual channel mode (also correct) DDR3 ram (clearly incorrect) at a frequency of 375MHz (correct) FSB:DRAM 1:1 (correct) but my timings are showing 32-6-14-13 on CPU-Z's memory tab.

I'm thinking this is likely just a BIOS reading issue; I believe the board can support DDR3 but just doesn't have the sockets for it and it's causing some conflict which is making CPU-Z read wrong, and there are no BIOS updates for this board as of yet.

There are some more memory timing options in my BIOS for which I do not know the correct setting; they are TWR, TRFC, TWTR, TRRC & TRTP. Can someone enlighten me?

All drivers installed properly and this is a clean XP install with all updates on board.

Any suggestions? Really not loving the fact that my 3500+ seems to run windows more smoothly than my new Conroe at 3GHz does...

p.s. also entirely unsure of voltages for ram & cpu, pretty much just leaving that to the board but could this also be an issue? Also, this isnt only a problem when i'm overclocked but it does seem to be getting worse...

What HDD ya using? HDD determines windows load time and a fair chunk of the general snappiness of the system :)

Just to make sure: Have you loaded the drivers from the mobo CD? The chipset drivers help HDD performance.

Ok firstly... don't worry about cpu-z i have problems on my P5K.

Secondly... check device manager to see if there are any items that say they need drivers if so pop in the cd that came with the board and it will install automatically, this stopped my slugish performance (as well as dropping the latest beta nvidia drivers for the whql ones).

Did u install in this order.... xp, chipset (not from disc but latest from intel.com), gfx, sound etc THEN updates? If not i would recommend doing that as my first install botched because the latest intel drivers would not install over the top of the generic xp ones.

Lastly make sure ur sata mode is ide not AHCI!!!
