new rig + first water cooled rig

Hello!

im very new to liquid cooling, but i have watched quite a few vids on youtube and think im ready to take on the challenge! :)

first off I would just like to hear what you guys think of the hardware im thinking about:

Asus Sabertooth Z77
Intel Core i7 3770k
Corsair Dominator (premium) 4x4gb 1866mhz
eVGA GTX670 FTW edition
Corsair Graphite 600T - White
Samsung 830 - 128gb (already have another SSD)
I im just going to use all the other HDDs and the PSU from my current rig for the new one.

Anyways, now to the real question. I am planning on getting a XSPC EX240 Crossflow radiator (35.5 mm thick) and the Phobya extreme 200 readioator. is that going to be enough for both the processor AND the graphicscard?

If anyone can link to a good waterblock for the graphics card I mentioned then please do! :P I have found one, just not sure if its any good. the one I have found is the EK - FC680 GTX - Acetal CSQ

also, if anyone have experience with the sabertooth, can it run passively cooled, read a review on guru3d which said it could, but I was a little scepticle...

I think that was it for now, hope I havent asked too many quesions.. :D

You can squeeze a 360 in the roof with a bit off effort.. it would be well worth it.

Yes that will be fine, but have you looked at other cases that off out of the box support for larger rads?

And about the "EK - FC680 GTX - Acetal CSQ" - I have the equivalent EK block for my 580 and its great. Don't worry about the ports been on the under side of the block as there is a link adaptor included.

I would be sceptical too, considering that the whole board is covered in that armour stuff, which I believe is designed to be used with the included fans.

The config looks nice, personally I'd go with Corsair vengeance ram and save a bit of money.

What fan do you plan to use on the 200mm rad, I'm really don't like corsair's 200mm fans? With a good fans the rads should be enough, but I'd probably fit a 360mm instead of the 240 rad in the roof, like Tom did, if it was my own rig.

You should be able to run the sabertooth passively theoretically, otherwise Asus would have fitted the fans themselves.

The reason I picked the 240 radiator was simply that I didnt think they made a 360 with crossflow. I checked and they actually make one, so I have decided to use a little money for some tools so I can mod the case a bit.

I have looked at other cases and apart from the switch 810 I havent really fallen in love with any other cases (unless of course you cound the silverstone TJ-something-something which looks to be ideal for watercooling, but the price-tag is like 4 times the 600T..)

I see your point with the RAM, but this build would be about building a quiet and aestheticly pleasing build.. and for my plans these ram with white leds would be perfect! :P

and about the 200mm fans, I have been looking at the Phobye G silent 18 but as far as I have seen the market isnt axcactly booming with 200mm quiet fans..
I htink i will get the corsair SP120 quiet for the other rad.

The rig is for gaming! (and of course watching movies and surfing, but im building it to be a performance gaming rig)

As said above you can get a slim (30mm thick) 360mm rad in the roof of the 600T with about 30minutes work. If you have a dremel then youll be able to do it.

Id still then use a 200mm or 240mm rad in the front though just to make 100% sure you can run the fans nice and slow. The bottom of the optical bays may need a tweak with the dremel too to make everything nice and snug.

Personally Id put the effort in and use a 360 in the roof and a 240 in the front.

Just make sure you build it TIDY or sadly we will all point and laugh..... Ive said it enough times in videos now theres no excuses.

yahr the 360 rad is something I will do (depending of if i can get a dremel for a limited sum..)

yahr I have considered a full 240mm (or 280mm) in the front. I dont think it would be much of a problem cutting of the lowest 5,25" bay, but how do I attach the rad and fans to the front of the case then? maybe a stupid question but I have never moded a case before..
besided what screws would I have to find then?

I will make it a tight build, otherwise it would be pointless, but should i fint out that I cant to it good enough I have a good friend with more experience in watercooling..

Hey Tom

I don't know if this is the right place in the forum to ask this, but I didn't find a thread about this. You seem to use your Dremel quite often, also for your videos, but I don't think you've ever shown it. Which Model do you use, or which one would you recommend for case modding, maybe some work on rc cars...? I've been looking at the 300 and the 4000, so is the 4000 worth the extra money? Also can you recommend any accessories?

If it's for gaming, there's no benefit whatsoever of getting a 3770k over a 3570k, so drop it to that and save £70.

Also, you dont need anymore than 8gb of RAM. Seriously no point at all getting 16gb

I have been looking for videos like that but havent been able to find it.. would be nice if you could make a video of you using a dremel or just some tips maybe.. :)

and now that we are on the subject of tools. are there any specific tools I need when making a water cooled rig? I have the usual alen keys and philips screwdrivers, but anything else?

oh and thanks for the advice jamesriley! I will keep that in mind! :)

I was just on the xspc site but I cant seem to find out what size screws fit the RX240 radiator, anyone able to tell me? :)

I need this to figure out what size holes I need in my case front if I want a 240 radiator fitted there..
