New RAM

this is very noob question but, im hoping to buy a 2Gb set of DDR2 RAM sometime soon (big money I know), to try and speed up this ancient Dell a bit. Can anyone suggest a good brand or even model of RAM I could use? I know my specs would help but apart from a Sapphire Radeon 9250 GPU and a 256 Ram upgrade, this is a standard Dell from about 5/6 years ago.

How much money have you got to spend?

DDR2 is going so cheap at the minute you can get a really good set for a very good price.

Good brands are OCZ, Crucial, Patriot or some cellshocks and a few others.

I'll have around £55-65 to spend on it in a month or so.

Are you sure your comp will take 2gb?

That's another thing I'm worried about unfortunately I have no idea how to check but if anyone does, that'd be great.

I think on the dell website if you search for your PC it will tell what speed your ram is currently at.. That's what my dad did to buy 4gb (even though it only shows 3 :))

I don't know the name of the model unfortunately, although I did try to find it but they've probably taken it off the website ages ago

U sure it`s even DDR2 ur after ?

5/6 years ago, it could be just DDR.

U could open the sucker up and take a stick out to see what the sticker on it says.

Whilst ur there u can count how many ram slots u have, and what quantities u physically have atm.

If u could photo the case, and anything else remarkable about it, I bet some1 here could identify it.

Go onto Crucial's site and do the Crucial memory checker, that will tell you what type of RAM you have and what space you have, then post that here

thanks for the replies i used the Crucial memory checker, its a Dell Dimension 2400 and it supports DDR RAM:(

Lucky I'm getting a new Mobo, Case, PSU and CPU in June then...:)
