Hey ho, need a new PSU for my setup as my current one is giving me the dreded buzz whiltst gaming and scrolling (should have never cheaped out).

Anyway my first consideration was this OCZ GameXStream.

Is this the best choice for the price? I realy dont want a repeat of the sound after a few weeks or packing up after a few months so im willing to pay a little extra (£100 as a rough budget)

Thanks for any advice.

(1 note. I noticed this value PSU http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135197 but for this price can it realy be any good? I ask this as it has +40 5* reviews + 4x PCI-E for this price )

well my current setup would only need around 650 i think but i want room to expand so i can upgrade without buying a new psu so 750 would be fine.

My recommendation would be to spend a bit extra and get the corsair 750hx. The extra money is worth it. However that OCZ looks quite good value. The more money, the better quality, so for a 750 you need to be looking at £100+. Avoid like the plague the value PSUs. The one you highlighted has a peak power of 800w, so probably a sustainable of 500w. Anything like 800w will rapidly overheat the PSU and kill your system.

The reviewers will not be putting nearly full load on it. Don't risk cheap power supplies, even ones that are a little more than dirt cheap are not really worth considering.

Thanks for the advice :) . I dont think i want to go beyond £100 as a budget so I would be willing to go for a lower power. say 650-750W. I would love to go higher but dont realy want to comprimise on quality so willing to go for this.

Would you advise against the OCZ PSU then as that was my initial one to go for and it seems a great power and reputable company for the price?

Thanks in advance

Edit: Just noticed a review of that very OCZ PSU on oc3d. It got a best in class so must be excelent and im now very tempted at this price . That was more than 3 years ago though. Does this matter?

The GameXStream's are reasonable PSU's, but there's definitely better ones out there now. Since that review 3 years ago we've made a lot of improvements to our PSU testing and I'd say that it would probably get a 'Recommended' award at best now with everything considered.

You could of course do a lot worse than a GameXstream, but if you can stretch to the cost of a HX750 then get one of those, otherwise the HX650 is a worthy alternative. You could also consider the new Be-Quiet P8 series which I think starts at 650w. I'm testing the 1000w version at the moment, and although its not perfect it's still going to get a fairly high recommendation.

hmm seems i should try to save up for a HX in that case.

I saw this in scan today only. Wondering if its any good as saves a good £20 on the HX ??

I don't think the TX is quite the same as the HX. I may be wrong but I didn't think they were the same base model underneath. The modular element is worth having with a more powerful supply as there are always going to be too many cables, more than you will need which get in the way of air and need hiding.

Hey thanks for all the advice.

I finaly took the plunge and went for the Corsair 850W HX Modular (only about £15 more than the 750). I know its expensive but with so many positive reviews and recomenations im sure I wont regret it, especialy with that 7 year warranty.

Thanks again for all advice given.

Having built a pc around the 750, you should be in for a treat. Shame they don't make a super high power PSU, otherwise I'd have bought that over the enermax.
