New Project - Suggestions Please

Hi Everyone,

I've just had a new case arrive, and I'm wondering what to put in it?

I was going to go with a 775 rig as a second rig to my i7/7970 rig but the watercooled MB I was after fell through.

I've got a Q6600 sitting about doing nothing and 8 Gigs of Kingston Hyper-X ddr 2.

I want to water cool it and am thinking motherboard/cpu at the moment, with possibly a second loop for a GPU if I should eventually bother.

This is the case all spanking, just got to decide what to put in it now.

Oh and a name..........any ideas?

Maybe an I5 rig with the board of your choice and call it IceCube.

I'm thinking of water cutting a scorpion emblem in the door and calling it stinger. Just waiting to hear from local machine shop as to if they can do it without ruining the powder coat.

Something like this

It's an Abarth design, I've left the original designers details on so I don't upset anyone.

I've just fitted this MSI P35 Platinum.

Not sure if it's staying, I do like the Mad heatpipe assembly though, just a shame about the Yellow connectors.

I'm ordering some white braid to tidy up the header connections, the firewire line probably won't stay as I have precisely 0 firewire devices.

What does anyone think?

I'm just trying to get a shopping list together guys for this water cooled rig.

Aside from the window work which i'm still deciding on at the minute i'm thinking......

Mayhems Aurora - Supernova (that's definite)

Tube Res (Suggestions to go inside a CM 690 ii welcome)

DDC 18W pump (or 2 if I run 2 loops

240 Rad Roof (Suggestions keeping in mind the width limitations)

240 Rad Floor (Probably going to be a 55-60mm rad)

6 x 120mm NF-F12's I've not as yet decided how i'm going to configure these to balance the airflow but i'm thinking of reversing the air path (top/rear intake, bottom/front outlet)

What do you think?

So I've just carbon vinyl'd the power supply, I found a coolermaster blue led fan smoked blades to go into it.

I don't think it looks to bad, although I'm going to redo the vinyl with slightly better planning next time so I actually cover the correct side of the PSU. (Join stands out like a sore thumb)

What do you guys think??

Once you get those cables sorted, it'll be one sweet build especially when its watercooled

So got all the bits together, aside from the Mayhem's Aurora (haven't decided on Supernova or Nebula Blue.

Test fitted everything, except the pump/res which is going in the optical bays, will need a 90 on the inlet though.

Rasa Block and 30mm 240 Rad

GTX 260 (ignore the Red Sata cable I've got a pair of white ones coming from specialtech

Braiding in progress

And braiding done on FPanel/USB/Audio - Not happy with the USB/Audio so will likely redo as 2 seperate lines.

And finally......................Dog WELL Impressed

Just realised I'm a pci-e connector short on my PSU so have to sort that out as well. Will take the radiators out to spray tomorrow, it's going to be a pain in the arse to match the white so I was going to go a baby blue/aqua kind of tone.

Name decided - It shall be known as "Raptor" (Thanks Lockheed Martin)

I've moved away from the scorpion project and decided that once I've finished this can be the lads quiet rig.

He's mad into aircraft, so I'm now discussing with a very friendly guy in coventry about water cutting an F22 silouhette in the side panel, which i'll back with some mirror'd perspex/polycarb.

I've finished the braiding on the front panel, no pics yet but will post soon.

How much of a pain to color the yellow connectors white ?

(by color I mean if you don't want to color/paint it, white tape or whatever)

Update.

Well I've sprayed the Rad's, went for a GM Blue Pearl Rattle can, and I've tubed up and put the Aurora in.

Just leak testing now............... and waiting for the Mrs to drop off my camera then I'll throw some pictures up.

Speaking to the water cutting firm tomorrow about the window, just trying to decide on the best orientation to show off the board/loop.

Was hoping to get some white/white bitfenix sata data cables, but having a nightmare with that so may have to go white/black instead.....this makes me sad.

Well the project was going really well till I killed the board and PSU, so i'm trying to source a replacement in the meantime I've been to the water cutters today and returned with this.

What do you reckon? I'm loving it personally, actually looking at it in the flesh it appears that the raptor could be flying towards or away depending on the angle you look at it from. Really quite happy.
