Hey guys, after my last setup over a year ago which comprised of:

AMD 64 3500+

1 Gig 3200 Crucial RAM

ASUS A8V Mobo

XFX 6800GT

Im looking at making (similar rig to what Kempez815 is making):

AMD X2 4400+

DFI LAN Party SLI DR

2 GB Ballistix Corsair RAM

2x7800GTX SLi'd

Coolmaster Stacker Master Masshoof Case!!

I'm funding this as I'm not upgrading my car but moving out instead (sounds odd but I'll have more money by moving out than upgrading car)

I need obviously to get some cooling on the cain as well, and some hard disk options and PSU, although it HAS to be some sort of modular SLI ready BEAST to keep up with power consumptions.

Any ideas guys?

I'm looking at air cooling at present, possibly XP-120 with Panaflo Fan, but may consider water cooling if its gonna be worth raping mass mhz out of my CPU and GPU.............er hurm.......'2' GPUS ;)

Hard disk options (including makes and RAID suggestions welcome)

Optical Drives

Sound cards

Any ideas are very welcome people, I'm always chopping and changing at the last minute so keep 'em coming........

Thanks for any input and I look forward to your ideas!

Alex

same psu as kemp, cant go wrong there.

careful with the stacker. xms ordered one and hated the bitch, there are better cases out there.

xp120 is a good choice

seems you have deep pockets so go for a raptor or 2 on the hdd front

audigy 2 ZS for the sound card

optical drives i tend to leave each to his own, im an NEC man whilst xms is a plextor person. go with what you have had good experience with.

Corsair on a DFI??? Get something else

With that kind of moster your better off with a PCP&C PSU :)

My 2 cents

Crucial Ballistix Tracers is what he means. Currently a hot favourite over at XS for the 2 x 1gb modules.

PSU: Gotta be a PCP&C Al - gotta be :D

Sound: Audigy 2 ZS - or one of the new creastive cards coming out soon - they are looking to rule the roost :yumyum:

That Stacker he's getting free and can probably put a window in there - so no probs :D

Hey lads, thanks for your advise!!

I'll have to have a look at that PCP&C, not familiar with it...

Yeah, my cous doesn't need the stacker so is giving it me for free :D

Optical wise, I'm an NEC man too, always done me proud.....

'Crucial' is exactly what I meant....... Kemp showed me the site with the sticks on it and they look SWEET.

The two 7800GTX's will have to come seperately as I'm not made of money unfortunately, but like to spend large when building PC's.

General motto would be 'if your gonna do something, do it properly first time' or 'if your gonna build a PC, take a friggin' mortgage out for it'..................... ;) ;)

PCP&C PSU's can be had from pcpowercooling.com, newegg.com, xoxide.com, and I forgot the name of the UK vendor that Matt bought his from, but they are reasonably priced there as well if I'm not mistaken.

If you wanna rock the dual 1gb sticks check out the Crucial Ball-Lick-Sticks or the Patriot (though a buddy of mine that I just sent some too said that one stick of his PDP died after one day of use, don't know if it was just a bad stick or if that's the quality u can come to expect from Patriot?)

If u wanna go the speed route, definately check out the ram that I'm rocking, very nice shizzle bizzle. Mushkin XP4000 Redline w/ the UTT, running 265 @ 2-2-2-5-1T w/ only 3.2 vdimm! w00t w00t.

There are a lot of bithin ram options on the market at the moment, so take ur pick! I advise against TCCD/5 based ram if you are gonna get a proccie with a high multi, use it to your advantage and get some ram with BH-5/UTT and rape it at some ultra low timings :D

Nice parts list you have going so far though, can't wait to see it start coming together for you!

matt bought his from a mate i do believe, but they can be had from extreme prometiai think. i wd give u the address but im rather i sure i spelt prometia wrong.

EP does have, yes that's right.

Matt bought his new I believe, the modular version modded by some UK site i do believe.

PSU : PC&P SLI or OCZ Powerstream 600 W

Memory : 2 x 1gb Ballistix or wait for mushkin 2 gb to hit the market there . Or you could go with 4 x 512 mb Mushkin Redlines which will go upto around 260 mhz ~ 3.4 V but in 2T but for gaming they are a better choice.

Cooling : Honestly the Swiftech Extreme Duty combined with Maze 4 low profile blocks is the best way to go after taking the IHS off your cpu. But if you want to air cool then go with an xp90C instead of the 120. Its smaller so u can actively cool your memory too if you get redlines.

HDD : I say raid 1+0 stripping works the best and the Nvidia raid controllers are darn good.

Mobo : of course DFI SLI NF4

Case : Forget stacker man , get a Lian Li . Stackers look fugly.

VGA cards : 7800 Gts are nice options.

Thats about it. Lemme know if you have any other doubts .

i like the gskill gh over the redline, and the crucial does indeed pwn.. i love 2.5-2-2-5 up to 220 and 2.5-2-2-7 @ 230... 2.5-2-3-7 @ 240 on up to 3-3-3-8 @ 290-300.. love it. my gskill gh got 270fsb @ 2-2-2... pretty good for utt i'd say :) 'tis for sale perhaps.. if ur in the us and interested... hit me up :D

Matt, where did you buy your PCP&C from?

I got mine off of a friend who sold it to me via ebay.

There's one currently for sale on Hexus Forums or you can get one from EP :D

Nick: GEIL 1 is ok - but the rest of the memory being mentioned is getting better results rioght now :D

How do you know??

Did you see that thread @ XS?

People are getting 320Mhz Stable, (32M SuperPi), 2.8v, 2.5-3-3-6.

Read the thread. Its all with 2 x 512mb modules. Very good results I'll grant you but the point is that he is getting 2gb RAM . Just for clarification Nick: 2GB.

And Here is the relevent thread for what he actually wants, and GEIL 1 is not even mentioned.

So yes your answer is GEIL 1 is good: but for 2 x 1gb modules The Crucial is better.
