New pc restart loop

Hey there

I just build a PC for my friend using only new parts but the motherboard. The assembly went fine but when i booted it up for the first time it restarted in loops of like 5 sec. I tried to switch the ram sockets, trying with only 1 ram stick but it didn't work. I then tried to reinsert the CPU but i noticed that a pin on the motherboard socket was bent or broken so i figured that might be the problem?

The specs are:

Corsair 450d
Corsair CS650M
Corsair vengance 8 gb 1600 mhz ram
gigabyte gtx 780
Gigabyte GA-z87X
Corsaird h100i
i5-4670k


I'm going back to him tomorrow and test out with my old mobo but any other suggestions? Unfortunately i didn't take a pic :/

Erh yeah, broken/bent pins can cause serious issues. Try a different board first and then report back, but I think you've already found the issue.

Yeah if its got bent pins then thats it - if you didnt do it by mistake putting it together then you may be shafted because a lot of places wont take a board back because its 99.999999% of the time done by the builder.

Yeah well, it's only one pin though. Can that really cause it not to work? And the motherboard is bought some time ago by another friend, who had a wrong type of CPU, so he gave it to the guy im build for

It sure can, all the pins are important in the running of the CPU, that's why they are there.

If its only 1 pin bent and gigabyte will not rma the motherboard, then you can try straightening the pin on the motherboard yourself. I had success with motherboards that had 10+ bent pins.

Most of the pins in the 1150 motherboard socket are important but there are quite a few ground pins, so if you bend/remove a ground pin, the rig would still be fully working (overclocking capability may be slightly reduced).

I also had one motherboard that had 3 pins bent that were associated with the memory controller. It kind of worked but the cpu's memory controller has only seen 1 ram slot out of 6

Hey Again, it was The motherboard that failed. Tried with my old one which worked. We might try to bend the pin back, thank you guys!
