New PC. Budget: £2200

Either one will take up a ram slot. Why don't you get the H80i?

Arent pumps unnecessary "louder" than a regular air cooler? He wont be OCing so I figured a cloosed water cooler was "overkill", and that a simple air cooler would be better.

It doesnt look like U12S takes up ram slot? Picture

Well an i7 is overkill for what he wants to do :P. It looks okay from that picture and tbh its not like you'll be using all the ram slots anyway. Personally I'd not risk it but go for it if you don't mind it.

Well what CPU cooler on air could you recommend then? Ones thats small, petite and silent. :P

If you're not overclocking, go for a CM 212 EVO CPU cooler. It's almost as good as the Noctua air cooler, smaller, cheaper and you won't really hear it through the Define R4 unless you sit with your ear near it anyway. It's like a 4-5°C difference or so.

And maybe replace GTX 780 Ti with a regular 780. Price difference vs performance isn't really worth it. SLI 780 should be able to handle most stuff outside 4k anyway and you probably need more than 3 GB ram for 4k as well.

His money, his call... No need to save on the GPU if hes gonna be using this PC for the next 5 years (least). Its what you'd call an "all-out PC", heh. Same goes with CPU cooler; even if its only 4-5C.

Heres what I've come up with (changed CPU from 4820 to 4770):

The U12S was especially designed not to obstruct Ram Slots. I can confirm it does not rech over the slots on my 1150 board (UD4h). Im pretty sure it's the same for 2011.

And if hes not overclocking you shouldn't even think about getting that board. Thats a massive waste :P

Oh right my bad ^_^

I know money isn't really an issue but tbh i would go for the 290x's over the 780tis simply because performance is the same and depends on the game, cheaper, mantle api, and plus he can get 3 free games to play with. Just has more value.

The money saved could go towards a better ssd as a TLC OS drive isn't as ideal as the MLC counterparts. You can get better speeds and reliability from a MLC drive. The Evo is only fast when it boosts itself but when it is not in its boost state its not slower. Could go for a Crucial M550 ssd or the Samsung Pro. Both are the only ones that offer 500Gb and over drives.

Even if he stays with the Evo drive by going with the 290x's you could always save some cash and wait for a FreeSync capable monitor which won't cost a premium like GSync. Its like any other normal monitor really. Just some things to think about.

Also could buy some more fans for the Define XL since it is a rather large case.
