New Motherboard

Hehe, I'm goin on a little bit of an upgrade frenzy if you wish to call it that. So, I got a new mobo. I had the Neo4 Plat, which was an AMAZING board.. but to my dismay MSI still has it, and it's been almost a month.

I don't know what is taking them so long. They have a neat little RMA tracker online and I took a look at my previous RMA with them, which was a K8N Neo FIS2R, and that only took about a week to get processed and back to me.. which is pretty freakin good. So, I sent them an email.

Onwards, I've been using a DFI nF4-SLi Infinity for the past two weeks. My complete and honest opinion about the board, it's a good board for people that do not overclock. Yes, a DFI that's not for the overclocker. The previous generation Infinities (think nF2) were just Lanparties, minus the UV Colors & cables. Now, they're completely different it seems. The BIOS in this board was slightly buggy (I'd disable the Parallel Port and it'd lock up.. wtf?) even with the newest official BIOS. Overclocking wasn't even as good as my MSI.. which happened to rape :D. I couldn't get 2.7GHz 1:1 stable no matter WHAT on that DFI. My max was 2.5GHz on stock voltage. Not bad but not really good at all. I even replaced the Chipset Cooler with an Evercool VC-RE, which is reccomended fully by DFI-Street for all nF4 boards. Still no change.

Onto the EPoX. My first impressions were ok. The board looks kind of plain and the ATX connector is in a (pardon my french) dumb ass spot. So, I popped off the chipset heatsink and put on my trusty Evercool VC-RE. That was a small task, and the back of my PCI-E slot where the little clip lever is, is slightly bent... but I managed to get it on rofl. I left the HDD's and everything else pretty much unplugged, and I fired it up. After a few seconds of watching the diagnostic led's cycle, I heard the monitor click on. Ahh, a sigh of relief. I went in the BIOS and toyed around, etc. Shut it down, and put everything else back in. Fired it up again, w00t, it booted. Popped'r at 2.5GHz and booted XP. Let the HDD's and such be re-detected, and I installed the EPoX Utility. Everything's lookin good. So now, I'm running at 2.7GHz stable, 1.57v.. 1:1.

Anyway, after that nice 'n long story, here are some leetz0r piccies. This board's got 3 sick blue LED lights. :D

That video card you see is my leet new spare card, a VisionTek X800. I decked it out with Microcool ramsinks and a Zaman VF700-Cu. OC'ed the crap out of it and now it runs source awsesome. I can't wait for that X1900GT tho! :D

If you can look past the ghetto colors and bad ATX placement on most EPoX boards you will find that you are using one of the finest and least expensive boards that can be had. I stand behind EPoX mobo's 100% as being one of the best makers on the market. I have yet to have an EPoX mobo let me down in any department. I've never had one die, and they've all overclocked like mad. Simple, stable, efficient, minimal, inexpensive... What more could u want? :)

Glad ur liking the board Nick, hope it serves you well!

Yeah it's got a great BIOS. Can do up to 1.85v vCore, and 3.1v vDimm.. more than I'll ever use on both. Can go up to 400MHz HTT too, but I've seen a screenshot of someone who clockgen'ed it up to 465Mhz HTT :slobber:.

I won it on eBay, NIB, for less than $50 shipped too.. great deal. So far so good, it's been stable for about 2 hrs running 100% load R@H. CPU temp is 51*C. Either I have a bad mount or that's the most accurate sensor yet. It seems to be fairly accurate actually. XP-90 w/Venice @ 2.7GHz, 1.57v. Anyway, I'll post back updates on it as I use it more.
