New Motherboard Recommendation

Do you guys have any recommendations on which Coffee Lake motherboard to get, MSI Z370 Godlike Gaming or Asus ROG Maximus X Formula based on performance? I am leaning toward the Godlike but I don't need all the video ports.

I pick my motherboards based on build quality because I tend to keep them a while and hammer them pretty hard with overclocking so I'm a pretty big believer in Asus. I don't think it's a fanboy thing either. Their boards are just usually beefier with better quality components which means better durability. Feature sets, they're no better or worse than the other guys aside from their UEFI BIOS being the best. Unfortunately their warranty service is legendarily bad. I still think it's worth the gamble though. I've owned a bunch of them for my personal rig and rigs I've built for others and to date, knock on wood. they've all worked perfect out of the box.

For the recent year or two i only recommend ASUS. Hero would be all the board you will ever need. If you want a little more pzazz go with the Formula.

Godlike is complete waste of money. All those features on X99, X299, X399 board yes. On Z370... No. You can't use half the stuff there. MSI is just not MSI from the days of yellow X-Power boards. They sell you marketing material, and the quality is poor at best.

Another real world demonstration of MSI quality of motherboards. Few of my friends who are members of PC Master Race (including me) upgraded in recent months, or are looking to upgrade their rig, and when looking for motherboard they don't select MSI in store's search. Just completely ignoring MSI like you would Biostar if they even exist.

Gigabyte has lost themselves. I really liked the white stuff from X370, and Z270 but they are so busy copying everyone else that they drop their on good products (glory to the green sniper). They were always little bit cheaper. And if i can get white board (or anything but gray and black) which has competitive results (as were mentioned boards) yes i would go with Gigabyte. Gray Gigabyte, or gray ASUS for the same price i would go for ASUS.

I haven't had contact with ASRock board personally so i can't tell you my experiences. Watch some reviews and decide for yourself.

ASUS has 45% of the motherboard market, and that is not just by marketing.

actually the Aorus Gaming 7 from Gigabyte is not a bad motherboard as long as you avoid the Gigabyte software

still if I had my time again I would grab the Asus Apex especially if you intend oc ( based on TTL review )

I'd personally go for the ASUS, the Godlike has a lot of unique features, but it isn't exactly an ideal setup with all of the PCIe lane nonsense going on.

What exactly do you plan on using with this board?

Thanks for the replies. I should have mentioned what it is for. I am planning on using the motherboard for Data analysis, statistics, and gaming.

no idea on how the hero X performs but I have the hero v in my other machine and the only problem I ever had turned out to be the PSU AX1200 from Corsair dieing


What The ROG Boards have is a very strong forum which absolutely kills the Aorus Forums and the Gigabyte forums so help is very close


Still I think so many motherboard failures are put down to the motherboard when its actually the buyer who screws up on them. Whatever you get "handle with care" and pretty sure you will be happy

Most of the failures are from bad power supplies. It rains havoc on electronics. And where i live power is not that good either. You see the lights flickering often. Every person that i know personally cheeps out on their PSU.

cheeping out on PSU's is actually the the "buyer who screws up on them"
