New MOBO for AMD64 4700 ClawHammer 754?

stocky

Hey,

I need some advice for my brother who has an AMD64 3700 Clawhammer. He currently uses an ASUS A8V I think it is. The bios seems very limited on this board. (even after flash)

He is looking to upgrade the board to a better one, if this is the right thing to do?

System Specs:

AMD64 3700 CH (754)

Asus K8V

Geil Ultra-X 2-2-2-5

Thermalright XP-120

Thermaltake PSU

What are his options?

Cheers :)

DFI NF3-250GB is a great board and I had no issues at stock or overclocked. In fact I was so impressed its gone into a business server.

My board took all sorts of abuse from numereous mach installations to air to heavy overclocks.

Does he do much ocing? Cos if he doesn't then a MSI K8N Neo might be better

That particular DFI board has solid reputation and is a great overlcocking board to use.

I would agree wholeheartedly thats the way to go - probably pick up a bargain too off ebay?

He is just getting to grips with 'proper' overclocking! I think that is the board that I researched for him a while back, I think it had good reviews for overclocking...

I'll let him know its an option, can you think of any others?

Advice on clocking this system would also be appreciated - such as recommended safe voltages/ fsb limits etc... :)

I think he'll have to go for that one! :)

Just flashed the ASUS bios (successfully completed) in DOS, now on re-boot it just holts on the starting screen...

What does this mean? Is there a way to fix it, without getting a new bios chip?!

If you plug a speaker into the onboard sounds (disconnecting any pci soundcards) the the audio will speak to you tellin you what has failed.

It's a great feature -shame more BIOS dont use it.

Another vote here for the DFI. It was the best board by far for S754, and i had quite a few (KV8-Pro, KV8-Max3 etc). My m8 has the s939 version aswell, and its just as good :D
