New Keyboard Advice

N-Key is invaluable if you fly keyboard in games (which I do) wasd for yaw and thrust, arrow keys for pitch and roll, and then ctrl, space, alt, e etc etc etc.. list goes on.
It's my personal preference, you don't need to launch into a tyraid of how you don't understand why anyone would need it. I do, I paid for it, I'm happy. Certainly not another case of being so called 'stupid'.

All I was saying is that I think its an overstated spec in the "is this a good keyboard" debate. Ive never done flight sims so I defer to you on that and if you need to press 10 keys at the same time then I stand corrected that it could be useful. But for me and the 30 years Ive been gaming, 6 key is more than enough and just about every keyboard will do that.

My K90 feels so weird going back to after this...
The switches just feel so light, and feels exactly the same as an ordinary keyboard.

All feels very weird :p

What problems exactly did you have with the Corsair software? I had absolutely no problems with mine - found it a pleasure to use actually.

I'm typing this on the Q-pad now - it actually feels really nice! I don't even find it too loud. Probably about the same as my K90, but I did type very heavy handed, so reds make a lot of noise if you press down hard, whilst the noise on these doesn't really change. It's obviously a much higher pitched 'click' on here, but I wouldn't say it was louder tbh.

Constant crashes. I don't know what I was doing but the software would just crash randomly. Not top big of a deal considering I don't recall ever losing my macros, but still annoying.

So what d'ya reckon then? Prefer blues over reds?

Considering I don't game anymore, Blues are certainly a lot nicer for typing. There's just a lack of feel on reds. Any slight catch on another key and it registers it as a key press, so I used to make a lot of typos and have to go back and correct them. Got so used to doing this actually that I could just instinctively realise how many additional letters I'd pressed down and delete and retype them without thinking about it, or looking at the screen or keyboard.

The blues have a lot more feel to them during typing. Due to the non-linear design, they don't register as a press until you've it past the 'click'.

However, for gaming, I can imagine the reds being a lot more responsive and easier to press, as they require next to no force to register a key press (can basically just rest your finger on it and gravity will register the press.

I think I'd like to try some others. I do really like the Q-Pad with blues, but the browns do seem to be recommended more than the blues so I may give them a try at some point. I do have a buyer who's happy to take the K90, the Q-Pad, or tbh any other mech keyboard I buy - so I'm happy to give a few a try.

I went from using blues for a year to using reds and it kinda trained my typing style to avoid them mistakes although I know exactly what you mean.

For me blues are too loud at night when I'm living with family or sharing at Uni (at the moment). Also, like you said blues don't feel nice for gaming so I permanently use my K90 (although my secret reason for using the K90 is the volume scroll wheel which I could not live without now).

When I first tried browns I was slightly taken aback as I thought they'd be identical to blues but the click would be inaudible. Instead, after the actuation point they become more resistive, this means you get the best of both worlds of reds and blues in my opinion.

Also, if you get a chance to try them, Topre keys are amazing. Currently only available in expenisve models but realforce are going to be releasing a cheaper range, the type heaven series.

Hmm, cheers for the opinions.
I will have a go with browns at some point I think.

As for the Topre - I seriously don't have that kind of money to spend on a keyboard haha. I have loads of things lying round my room that I need to sell at the moment anyway, so I'm trying to resist buying anything else until some of that has sold - but knowing me that really isn't going to happen ;)

Me either, I was lucky enough to have a mate at work lend me his Happy Hacking keyboard for a couple days to use at work.
