New High-End for Gaming/Editing/Music

I think it's time to do a new, sexy, INTEL build. With LEDS.

• Where are you located?
US, Utah

• What is your budget?
300$ tops CPU (might re-use 2500k sandy) is it worth it to liquid cool this?air?
800$ tops GPU (thinking EVGA 780 ti SC)
300$ tops Case (I want something flashy, with great airflow, that I can paint)
300$ tops MOBO (good features, and reliability) and overclockability.

I want everything to match black and red, or black and blue as much as possible, I want it to make people go oooo and ahhh :}

• Will you need a monitor, keyboard, and/or mouse included in that budget?
I do not need a keyboard, (waiting for the Corsair RGB mech) mouse, or monitor.


• Shall you be requiring an OS?
Can I re-use my current windows 7?

• What will you be using this rig for?
Gaming, Video Editing, and Music Production

• If gaming, what resolution will you be playing at?
1920x1080

• Will you be overclocking?
Yes please, I want to overclock my CPU, and maybe use my current i5 2500k sandy bridge.

• Do you need a full build or will you be reusing some old parts?
I plan on reusing my PSU, which is a 750w. My 256 SSD, my 2tb wd Black HDD, and 1tb wd Black HDD, and my 32gb of Ripjaw Z series 1866 ram.

And as for case, I was thinking something like the Level 10 GTS, or the PHANTOM.. I'd like something with a handle, LEDS, Great Cooling, Cable Management, And something that looks good after the custom heiroglyphic paintjob that I plan on putting on it;] I like the ASUS Hero, you ever used it?

I couldn't really advise on OC'ing the 4770k because I mainly follow AMD tech but you should definitely take a look at some of the other guys on here, they've done some great OC's also check out the Overclocking guide

I have question, I bought an OEM 64bit Windows 7 for my current comp. When I get a new MOBO + CPU, will I be able to plug in my SSD w/ W7 on it, and have it turn on and keep all my settings? Or do I have to buy a new version of windows?

Reinstalling Windows 7 is highly recommended as the new motherboard will probably use completely different drivers

Only way to get OEM W7 to a new system is by putting it onto a new drive. Reason why is because it locks into the motherboard model so only way of reinstalling and avoiding that problem is to use a new drive. Though should just get a cheap non OEM W7 OS disc/product key off of ebay for cheap.

I'm pretty sure you can reinstall on the old drive. Worst thing that can happen is that you have to use the phone to register it again.

I agree that you should definiely do a fresh install. Be it on the old or a new drive.

Aye, unless something changed between xp, vista and then 7.. you can transfer it, it's just not 'legal' to install it on two machines at the same time.

Original Equipment Manufacture. It just means this..

OEM versions of Windows 7 are identical to Full License Retail versions except for the following:

- OEM versions do not offer any free Microsoft direct support from Microsoft support personnel

- OEM licenses are tied to the very first computer you install and activate it on

- OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

- OEM versions cannot be used to directly upgrade from an older Windows operating system

Changing the CPU does not affect activation.
The reactivation threshold is about 3(iirc).
Replacing the hard disk does not affect Windows Activation.

Regarding the bold.. you could switch the hard drive and re install on a new drive and it would have no way of knowing which motherboard you were previously using.. so it should be okay.

Uh oh.. I hope so. How will they know if I'm using it on a new Motherboard..

Its tied into the OS and drive so when you boot it goes through sort of a checklist to make sure everything is okay(simplest explanation i can think of) and it the motherboard model changed it would not boot and probably give you an error.

So I should probably erase OS of of SSD on the current MOBO, then build the new PC and try to re-install windows again then?
