Hey all, Just signed up a few minitues ago I have been reading the forums the last few days and found that you are a very nice bunch of people :D.

Also to be honest I was wondering if I could get some tips, I basically want to build a new rig with a Conroe Core , Right now I have a Pentium 4 with HT 3Ghz at 3.6Ghz O'ced. Im very new to this kind of thing so bare with my lack of experties :P. I am using Ai-Nos by Asus to overclock my current CPu.

Now as my new rig is almost done, all I have left to buy is the CPu ( conroe ) The cooling for the CPu , Motherboard and the Case , everything else is done. As the clocks of the Conroe dont exceed 3Ghz without overclocking I wanted to ask what do you guys think personally is best for Heatsink/Fan cooling?

Room temp is usually 20 C in winter around 14 C

Im not an extreme O'cer but id like to keep my conroe stable at atleast 3.2 Ghz

As for the Case... Just spam me with your idea's and creations !! :p.

Thanks for your time!. :D

I know of someone who has just went to conroe and used a Scythe Ninja Plus cooler. He has a E6300 with not much clocking expierence but easily managed to get it to 3ghz on stock volts :yumyum:

P.S Welcome to the forums ;)

Oh I see thanks for the info :D, With my current PC I can only Oc' it by 6oomhz it wont let me do anymore maybe my motherboard has limiations? its an Asus P5Ad2.

My geuss is your currently ram or mobo limited. Seems best conroe combo is P5b Deluxe and e6600. I suggest stock cooler or phase change :P

Atm I have 3gb of 577mhz ram. Does the ram actual speed have anything to do with the Cpu overclock? As for the cooling .. Im leaning towards the best... Heatskink/Fan Cooling :P No phase change for me sorry :P

Well 3b means 2x512mb 2x1gb or 3x1gb, both of which are not ideal. The ram speed, you say is 577mhz, thats double data rate. So it runs @ 233mhz. If your running a 1:1 fsb to ram speed, and you are at 233 fsb, your ram is @ 233mhz.

Your ram needs to be able to handle your fsb, if not exceed it in a x:y ratio where y>x.

I see ok, for the ram set-up what would you suggest then? just X2 1gb?

Also how do I find out what my ram can handle?. Also do you suggest any programs I can use besides AI-Nos?

Atm I have 1gb x2 and x2 512

So if i had to get a conroe core box clocked at 2.4 would a "Scythe Ninja Plus Fanless HeatPipe Cooler" be enough to O'c it at around 3Ghz ?

If possible could you give me some good Mobo and ram combinations with that? thanks. :)

So , would a pair of Corsair 1024MB XMS2-6400,Heatspreader,

Speed PC6400 Size 1024MB Organization 64MX64…

be sufficient?

+ ASUS P5B DLX/WIFI-A,Sk775,PCIe ATX,965,DDR2,Glan,SATA,WIFI,

+ Intel Duo 2 6600 2.4Ghz

Im looking to keep it stable at 3Ghz at least.

Yeah man, but overclocking always vary, these chips also don't oc exactly like other CPU's. You can't just expect a certain amount or you may be dissapointed. Meanwhile at the same time even a 1.8 conroe would womp your old system.

Woah... They are that powerfull?? I mean ok I have heard that the Conroe sweeps the floor with AMD's FLagship but still thats just gr8!. Thing is with my current PC I can run everygame without a slowdown or a sinlgle stutter runs flawlessly Maxed AA's and all . Will the Conroe chip give me a benefit? . I am still upgrading none the less cause its a hobby.

( Oblivion Maxed settings,AA's and HDR )

( Fear Maxed settings and AA's )

Both run flawlessly

System P4 3ghz with HT @ 3.6

X1900XTX O'ced

Raptor 10,000 74G ( gaming HD )

P5AD2 Motherboard

3G 577Mhz

( Nothing special I know but runs every game to date Flawlessly )

I see so the new core could take advantage of what I currently have with greater preformance gains.

I know im asking much but could you view the

ASUS P5W DH DELUXE,Sk775,PCIe ATX,975X,DDR2,2Glan,SATA,Raid,

&

ASUS P5B DLX/WIFI-A,Sk775,PCIe ATX,965,DDR2,Glan,SATA,WIFI,

Which would be best for a gaming platform? and some minor O'cing

like I said before im sure 600mhz OC' wont be hard since il be probably getting a 2.4 Conroe core to get a nice 3Ghz.

Ok :D thanks a lot m8 solved lots of my options problems :P.

I don't mind looking like a total newb I like to learn hehe. Its the main reason why I joined these forums :D.
