New GTX570 Faulty?

Unboxed my new nVidia GTX GeForce 570 (Gainward) today, plugged it into my mobo, connected my 2x 6 pins to it. The fan sounds like a jet and is running at 100% for sure, and there is no display on my monitor.

I tried using VGA instead of DVI, no difference. I also tried using the same card on my housemates rig, with same result, minus the 100% fan use, but I think this can be attributed to his 400W PSU. Tried different monitors also.

My hardware list:

4GB Kingston DDR2

Asus PK5PL AM/PS

Samsung 1Tb F3 Spinpoint

5 Case Fans

60Gb OCZ Vertex 2

Q8200 @ 2.33ghz (no overclock)

PSU is Corsair AX750 (750W)

The PSU is <2 weeks old so I basically think I can rule out PSU failure.

I am aware that my motherboard only supports PCI-E 1.0 , and the bus speed of GTX570 is 2.0, but I read that 2.0 is backwards compatible.

Please offer suggestions.

I am upgrading to GA-P67A-UD4 (B3 Revision) + i7 2600k combo within the next fortnight or so, should I wait to see if card will work with those component, or do you think it needs to be RMA'd.

Thanks for your help.

Asus PK5PL AM/PS only PCIE 1.0 ? I didn't know that.

You sure it's not PCIE 1.0a (which is what I think manufacturers called PCIE 2.0 before it was ratified)

Obvious thing to me is to look directly at the power getting to the card. It's all well and good having a beefy psu, but even the best of them suffer from not supplying what the graphic card wants. You can try swapping around the pcie power connectors, and trying the molex->pcie adapters that came with the card to rule that out partially. Try all combinations, if it doesn't work, that mostly qualifies your psu.

If the pc is booting, you can't see anything on the monitor, but caps-lock & num-lock leds on your keyboard are turning off and on as you press them, the pc is inherently ok and "something" is lacking to initialize the graphics card.

If you are buying a new mobo anyway, it might make sense to try it in the new one to save messing about.

I have read into it a bit more, the motherboard runs the Intel G31 Chipset which supports PCI-E 1.1, so I would assume it should run ok on my motherboard.

Hmmm, I really did try all combinations on my PSU, I tried different 6 Pin connectors, used the Molex to 6 Pin, removed fans and HDD, I really feel that I tried all I could.

I think I will wait until I purchase a new motherboard, and if I still have no success with it, it's time to contact reseller.

Its probably the PSU.

My gtx570 runs perfectly on a 550w chieftec so your's should have plenty of power, but it seems like its dead.

Try it first with the new mobo just in case.

i had this with my hd 5850 it was fine for 6 months then i went to turn my pc no signal from the card after turning the pc on and off 3-4 times it booted and was the same until it was replaced it done it with my gtx 480 so i was quite confused and narrowed it down to the mobo and couple forums later guy told me to clear cmos and its been perfect ever since that all i can suggest but it strange as it didnt boot with your mates pc a psu usally wont start until the components are powerd i ran a gtx 260 off a 350w generic psu for 3 months until i got a decent one but just my 2cents let me know if it was any help
