so I sold my XFX HD 7970 BE gpu for £185 and now i'm in the market for a new gpu for gaming in the bank i've got £450 and was thinking of getting an R9 290 and a waterblock but i'm worried about losing the warranty on the gpu (some people may know a way........I hope..)

so guys i need some suggestions

get an R9 290 and waterblock or get an gtx 780

info on my rig
i7 4770k
sabertooth Z87
360mmx64mm and 240mmx64mm rads
18w DDC pump
Corsair 750D

290 with a waterblock.

Go for the Sapphire 290 Tri-X version. Its the best cooler out there as of now and a slightly beefed up reference cooler so mine as well get the best you can with a block. You could even get the 290x version and not get a waterblock but still have insane performance and still remain cool(its stays around 75C in games).

Also this cooler is super quiet. More quiet than the Asus DCU2 version.

Er what?

If your system is already in a loop either way with an upgrade you will have to take it apart. Mine as well get a 290 with a block then. Would be easier than just leaving it on air with a loop already in there.

Depends on how much you want to spend but you can get a 290 and a waterblock for about £420. A water cooled 780 is going to cost about £480.

Aircooled, the non ref 290s are still around £20-£30 cheaper than the 780s at the moment. Just comes down to whether you would rather go with Nvidia or AMD feature wise. Performance wise there is next to nothing in it, the 290 is slightly faster in some games and the 780 is slightly faster in others.

Ok lol
Just didn't know what the hell it was supposed to be:p

The Sapphire Tri-X cards are the best on the market out of all the recent online reviews and all other big name coolers can't match it.

No one knows of yet if the Poseidon cooler will go on a 290, i would expect it would since it is going on the 780. Shouldn't be hard to slightly modify it for the different pcb.

No ideas if Asus have any plans for the poseidon but if they do I doubt it will be any time soon. There would be rumours floating around by now if it was coming anytime soon.

is it worth paying the extra £70 for the warranty? and is the waterblock going to be any good?
