Hi,

Don't know what to do, currently have 7850 (had CF but sold second 7850 did not have micro-shuttering issues, not sure whats the story with 280xCF)

What i need is 120fps (120Hz monitor 1080p) in BF4 (only game i play) and i don't know what card(s) to buy. 280x CF or 770 SLI is a cheap option (i know that 280x is 7970Ghz and 770 is 680)

290 in CF is "no go" due to heat/noise and power consumption (i have only Seasonic 750W) and no idea when i can expect non-reference versions (maybe Dec/Jan)

780TI - don't think that will get me where i want to be with fps.

Spec;

4770K@4.4Ghz with H100i
Seasonic X750W
Asus Hero
Storm Trooper
8GB Ram
Benq lx2411t

So, the card is only for BF4 with ultra settings (no AA, don't see the benefit when playing online) I don't want to spend more than £600.

Any ideas ?

I'm in a similar situation and I believe either a) two of these, which OC'd can just about hit 780 performance and as such are flying off the shelves b) a 7990 c)2x 770s(4gb). In terms of battlefield both the AMD options would do really well due to goodish drivers but the Nvidia ones are the least likely to give headaches with other games.

280X CF would be the best option with Mantle in mind I reckon. Or 7990, if it is significantly cheaper.

The 280x you linked are really loud but i think after OC two of them will beat 780TI.
770 4Gb are expensive, not far from 780...
7990 don't like the cooler on them

AMD has mantle - not sure what that will do but i'm sure it will make some difference.

Sapphire Toxic 280x is on par with a 780.

I have seen this posted a lot and it is a bit of a misinterpretation.

IIRC it was an overclocked Toxic 280x gets close to a stock GTX 780. If we remember the GTX 780 is also an excellent overclocker this leaves quite a bit of distance between the two cards.

You can also make the same argument for the HD 7970 (rebadged as the 280X) my Asus Matrix Platinum 7970s can give the stock GTX 780s a run for their money.

Having said all that the Toxic 280X looks like a top notch card.

hmm

MSI 280x is not is not the best overclocker (from reviews)

well considering all the reviews say that you can't get a better OC out of the ASUS 'cards due to the cooler not being as efficient...

I was living in a lie… All the reviews i have seen indicated that DCU as a good cooler

DCU2 is a quiet cooler. Still performs along with the rest of the others but IMO silence is more important anyway.

Also jump to windows 8 for bf4. People have reported massive gains(some say 50fps but i think it is an exaggeration) and as such should help you reach that constant 120hz/fps target.

Also if you are hitting over 120hz i highly suggest you keep v-sync on for the best fluidity. Which is the point at 120hz anyway.

770 SLI is slower than 280x crossfire and more expensive.

AMD has improved the runt frame problem- not mirco stuttering- and with these new cards they are either on par with nvidia or better.(once in a while worse but goes both ways).

I had 2 r9280x@s in x-fire and when they were working the performance in bf4 was amazing, they were the sapphire dual-x oc cards but they both turned out to be broken, so they have just gone back and I was refunded. I like you just don't know what to do.

Good cooler? Yes. I didn't say it was a bad cooler:rolleyes:, it is not however as powerful as the toxic cooler and the chips for the toxic edition I believe are hand picked, hence why they have a higher clock stock then what you can get out of some of the 280xs you can buy.
