New GPU Decision!!

I think I might actually grab one of those and wait for G-sync..
A) excuse to buy a 120hz + screen and
B) G-sync

That monitor wont support G-Sync though. You need a monitor that has the G-Sync hardware built in. Compatible monitors are coming Q1 of next year I heard.

Or did you mean you'll grab one for the time being? Personally I want to wait and see if IPS G-Sync monitors become a reality further down the line before I jump on.

I don't particularly like Nvidia but G sync is right up my street! January is going to be a month of hard hardware based decisions with the (hopeful) release of aftermarket cooled 290xs, lower priced 780s, the 780ti, hopefully lower priced SSDs and now G sync. AHHHHHHHhhh

Oh, wait a minute...

"Alternatively, if you’re a dab hand with a Philips screwdriver, you can purchase the kit itself and mod an ASUS VG248QE monitor at home. A complete installation instruction manual will be available to view online when the module becomes available, giving you a good idea of the skill level required for the DIY solution; assuming proficiency with modding, our technical gurus believe installation should take approximately 30 minutes."

Source.

So it isn't G-Sync enabled by default but it is possible to modify it, coming from Nvidia themselves.

Wait for the aftermarket coolers for the r9 290x, Also the R9 290 will be released on the 31st this month. Wait for the benchmarks on that one. When the aftermarket coolers are released it will be a game changer I'm sure, I think everyone that ever experienced a AMD vacuum saw it coming a mile away. That thing could barely handle a HD 7970 how in the world would it have been capable of being able to support a power hungry GPU is beyond me. Also it's a new GPU there will be a driver war incoming. Decide your GPU on the games you play, Mantle in itself can be a game changer for us all.

Won't need a 120hz monitor if G-sync turns out to be as good as it sounds.. 60hz would be perfect enough.

I think you're missing the point of G-Sync, the idea is it vary's from 30 all the way up to 144 etc.

That screen IS compatible but you have to mod it once they release the chip, which i'm more than happy to do.

Personally I think I've decided on going green. Mantle was always in the back of my mind making the decision hard. However, after some (what I'd like to think) logical thought, I've come to the conclusion that mantle just doesn't really matter. I read it would allow *up to* a 20% performance increase. So at 60 FPS Mantle (with 20% increase) would get you to 72 FPS *if* the games supports it. But Linus mentioned that G-Sync made 30 FPS look better than a higher frame-rate without it because it's completely smooth. So surely any small performance increase on the red team is completely irradiated by G-Sync?

Anyone care to comment on my thoughts?

When the aftermarket coolers are out, You will be spending less and have better performance(already is with this crappy vacuum). Also There are 2 cards that have yet to be released one from AMD (r9 290) and one from Nvidia (GTX 780ti)

AMD are probably just holding back the aftermarket coolers in anticipation for the 780ti. They did the same sort of thing last gen with drivers.

This!! once you go IPS, there's no going back (for me at least).

A TN panel is still not worth it over an IPS though.

Why not wait? I do not see much of a point in going the green side now. Before the end of Q2 Maxwell is supposed to be out.. mine as well get the new tech when you get the new tech monitor.

In your opinion....

I'll take my 144hz monitor over any 60hz monitor. It makes a massive difference for tournament / competitive gamers. I would rather have a visual experience with a Television anyhow.

I game on PC. I already have the FPS over console, what i need to justify the extra FPS is eye candy.. which is IPS. This is my personal opinion and you do not have to agree with it. IPS>144hz TN monitor.
