New GPU 760 vs 770

I'd be more than happy to help you getting rid of some of those codes :p

For gaming (and I don't do a tonn of it if I'm honest) I much prefer Nvidia. I know they arn't perfect and I'm sure I will be told AMD do a much better job with their drivers etc. But, from past experience, a game is more likely to work properly on release on an Nvidia card rather than ATI/AMD.

I see different stories around the net, ranging from, AMD drivers are great to they still have major issues. On top of that, Nvidia offer adaptive vsync plus some other bits.

However when it comes to none gaming needs I'm wide open when it comes to choise and the way I figure it, getting one Nvidia card (main rig) and one ATI/AMD card (folding rig) I'm also covering my bases when it comes to what new fah cores work best on what in the future.

Those 7950s do look tempting but it's really going to be down to how much I can get for the 560 and 560 Ti. The 7870 can be had for around £160 where as the 7950 starts at around £220 which is quite a jump in price.

I know I should be able to get at least close to a new 7870 with the sale of my other cards, it's going to boil down to how far away I am from the price of a 7950 as to which one I will get.

I think I have pretty much made up my mind, sell both my cards (keeping none for Physx) getting a 770 for the main rig and with the sale of my other cards getting the best ATI/AMD card I can afford.

The next month is going to be both tense and fun as I wait to see how all this pans out and then playing with (hopefully) two new toys.

All I can say is atm the Sapphire 7950 @ Newegg is selling for $269 which is right at the price of 660TI/760 and ATM that relates about a 30K+ PPD difference for core 17 PPD, but that may not stay as we all know PG does what they want and things could change for Nvidia or ATI.

Make a good decision buddy, glad to see you back!!!:)

He lives in the UK hence why he keeps saying pounds instead of $ lol
I know how you feel though, i love in the US as well so it's harder to recommend stuff with price differences.

Anyway do as you said. Sell both the 560s and if possible stretch it a 7950. Get the refund from the other card and go for a 770. Sounds about perfect with little money spending:)
Never had an AMD driver issue except when i have an unstable clock and i'm benchmarking. Other than that they are perfect. I don't know if Nvidia performs better on new released games but an immense amount of games are now becoming "AMD Gaming Evolved" Titles which means it's better optimized for AMD gpus(don't know about cpus). So maybe some games do but i'm unsure. Both are great card makers but it always comes down to price/performance and that's been AMD for quite some time now. So i go with AMD. Not trying to convince you to switch but i'm just clearing up some of the amd drivers vs nvidia awesomeness fiasco. Either way is a win win nowadays^_^

So, I have an email saying I'm getting a refund and the RMA process is complete... but I'm yet to actually see a penny of it.

I'm itching to start this upgrade path I'm going down, but don't want to spend the money before I have the funds from the RMA in case something gets messed up.

Our electricity goes through a top up meter, so I have a deal set in place where I can fold as long as I top up the electricity with the amount I tend to use.... before I use it.

The refund cannot come soon enough!

Awesome, hopefully that refund shows up quickly and you can get a card ordered.

The refund was taking it's time and I ended up pulling the trigger on an MSI 770 gaming before it turned up.

When the refund eventually did turn up after much poking and prodding I grabbed a Sapphire 7950 for the ol' folding rig.

At the moment I couldn't be happier :)

Nice!:)
It would be interesting to see how the 770 and 7950 compare on Core 17 projects

I got the 770 crunching a little while ago as I was curious myself.

The 7950 has an estimated PPD of 72900 while running at 1000mhz core and the 770 has an estimated PPD of 93400 while running at 1187mhz core.

Both are folding a Project 8900.

Edit:

Update. The 7950 is up to 75900 estimated PPD with me doing nothing other than leaving the PC to sit. I will get a better idea of my 7950 PPD on the next work unit which will start from scratch at 1000mhz.

I have gotta ask, where were these cards a couple of years ago. My old Asus 560 ti TOP was so damn loud when folding. Both the 7950 and the 770 are really nice and quiet.
