New GPU 5830 or 460 or other?

I'm just looking at getting a new GPU as my 8800GTS g92 decided to die

(seems like the mem has overheated)

Going to i42 prob didn't help it.

I'm on a x1900xt atm and it's actually running most games I play ok (css stress 430fps with my config)

I've looked around and my first thought was to get a 460 GTX but after reading some articles and looking at prices it seems the 5830 is really cheap at the moment and seems to benchmark higher than the 460 in a lot of games.

Not sure whether to buy a cheap GPU now and wait until new games come out (am looking to maybe playing BF3 + Guildwars2) or get a really nice card now. (am thinking by the time BF3 is out GPU's will be cheaper)

If anyone has any experience of the 5830's or 460's, what are the temps and noise levels like?

The prices at the moment: 5830 £70-80 | 460 £120-150

Sort of swaying towards the 5830 due to price, will miss CUDA a little but hopefully dev's will be looking to OpenCL.

So much choice in GPUs

Noticed the gtx 560 is £140-150 and seems faster than the 6870, also would keep the CUDA and physx of nvidia

But looking at benchmarks the 5830 will run all games I play at the moment fine so really confused on which to go for

Maybe 5830 now and something else in 6months time?

Altho my 8800GTS g92 only cost me £45 3 years ago

The 5830 would be the cheapest card to get now and if it plays the games you play it's probably worth getting if you plan on upgrading in 6 months.

The 6870 and 560 are close in performance but if you want Cuda and Physx then you are better off getting the 560. If you can save an extra £30 though you could get a MSI twin Frozr 560ti for £178 that way you wouldn't have to upgrade for quite some time and you can always add another one in a years time when they drop in price and SLI them which would give you close to a GTX590 performance wise.

I bought a Gainward 460 1GB GS edition about 3 months ago and although my rig isn't fully upgraded yet I must day I'm so happy with its performance.

It maxes Anno1404 out 1080p and Crysis Warhead almost 80% settings with tweaking.

My plan is to go SlI on these as their easy to cool, team up well, are small enough to fit into most rigs and importantly......cheap

140 odd at amazon now cheaper again if you shop around.
