New gaming rig, yay!

you don't get many people who admit that about what they've bought :P

Yes, but we're a good forum, and we can take our egotistical views of what we own out of the equation and just advise what's best for the person who asks :)

Don't get me wrong - it's a good board. But - I bought it purely because of the integrated wifi, which turned out to suck - as does all wifi on desktops. Then looking at the bigger picture, it costs £50 more than the GD65, and the only difference if a wifi card that isnt good enough to game on anyway.

Having said that - I've not had any problems with it at all other than the wifi, and it has performed great too - still just not worth more than the GD65

Regarding the sound, you'd be way better off getting good speakers than an internal sound card and gaming speakers. You've got a perfectly clean signal coming from the mini-jack connector on your motherboard that you can plug into a decent hi-fi auxiliary, for example.

I currently have a set of Edifier Aurora 2.1 speakers but I'm looking for something better. Unfortunately I don't have the space on my desk for a hi-fi system so I'd prefer a good quality 2.0 or 2.1 speaker set. I've heard good things about the Audioengine A2 and the M-Audio Studiophile AV40 mk II, can anyone comment on them?

I've used M-Audio stuff before and generally found it pretty amazing for the price. Actually preferred them to the £400 near-field monitors my college used. I had a look at the Audioengine system and it seems pretty solid. TBH, though, if you want to go down that route, you would need a sound card of some kind to get the most out of them, I think, unless you do go for ones with a USB interface. Basically, a nice amp and cross-over to get a good signal to the speakers.
I would also say that the M-Audio Av30s are half the price or near enough and the main difference seems to be that they're slightly quieter at 15 watts per speaker rather than 20, but I doubt you'll ever have them at full volume anyway. Personally, I would just get those over the Av40s; in terms of listening to pre-recorded, mixed/mastered material, I doubt you'd notice much of a difference.
