Hello!
smile.gif

...I was thinking to post this in the Cases & Power section of the forum... but I hope I did a good thing by posting it here...

So in about 2 weeks from now I will buy a new gaming rig and I only mean to use it for gaming... (I also have a laptop that I use and will use for surfing the webs and music), so please keep in mind that I fully admire you overclockers around here
smile.gif
and I mean that in a positive way... I am not thinking of or having a wish to buy/build a nuclear power plant gaming rig so to speak
smile.gif

I have already found the parts that I want to and will buy I just need your expertise/thoughts on how much or how great of a PSU do I need for my list...

and here is the list:

MOBO ---> ASROCK Fatal1ty P67 Professional

CPU ---> INTEL Core i7 2600K

RAM ---> CORSAIR Vengeance, 12GB DDR3 1600MHz, 3x4

GPU ---> Gainward GeForce GTX 580, 1536MB GDDR5

HDD ---> 1000.0 GB WESTERN DIGITAL Caviar Black, SATA3, 64MB cache, 7200 RPM

COOLER ---> ZALMAN CNPS11X Extreme

CASE ---> NZXT Phantom, Big/Full Tower

OPTICAL DRIVE ---> BD-ROM LG SuperMulti BLUE CH10LS20

MONITOR ---> 22'' LCD SAMSUNG SM B2230HD

PSU ---> CORSAIR TX V2 series, 850W, ATX2 v2.31, 140mm vent.

so will this PSU of 850W be enough for powering/pumping juice into all of those things on the list?

thank you for reading and I am looking forward to your answers/suggestions!

850 will easily power that rig with room to spare. The only thing that I've noticed is that you have specified triple channel ram 3*4. The SB M/B only support dual channel ram, so you will need to go 8 or 16.

If it is only for gaming then get the 2500k, the 2600k provides no extra benefit to games as of now. With the extra money you can get a Gigabyte UD4, and also yes you do need the dual-channel RAM like sheroo said; 4gb or 8gb.

thank you all for your input!

just read a couple of detailed reviews regarding the processor and yes I will go for the INTEL Core i5 2500K instead of the first one that I had in mind... the Core i7 2600K. thank you for the tip AdrianD2!

and regarding RAM... I found the dual channel that I will take instead of that triple channel...

I would go with 8 gigs of ram over 16. Just get tighter timings with higher frequency. Games out today use 4 gigs at MOST meaning you are just wasting money. Unless you do HEAVY digital graphics then i would stay away from that and again put the money towards something better. Esp just for gaming, also one last thing. The asrok mobo is kind of bleh in my opinion as nobody used them and the ones who do always tend to have negative things to say towards or about them. Go with a gig or asus motherboard.

One last thing towards your prior question of will that 850w PSU be enough juice. The answer is easily yes. That's plenty of power for even some good overclocking.

Yeah have to agree with Chaney, didn't know how set you were on your on your spec, but I would go Gigabyte or Asus over the Asrock that you specified.

so after some extending searching and reading of all kinds of reviews...

here is the new and I hope it will be the final setup:

MOBO ---> ASUS Sabertooth P67

CPU ---> INTEL Core i5 2500K

RAM ---> Corsair Vengeance, 8GB DDR3 1866MHz, kit 2x4GB

GPU ---> Gainward GeForce GTX 580, 1536MB GDDR5

HDD ---> 1000.0 GB SAMSUNG SpinPoint F3, SATA, 32MB cache, 7200RPM

COOLER ---> ZALMAN CNPS11X Extreme

CASE ---> SHARKOON Scorpio 2000

OPTICAL DRIVE ---> BD-ROM LG SuperMulti BLUE CH10LS20

MONITOR ---> 22'' LCD SAMSUNG SM B2230HD

PSU ---> CORSAIR TX V2 Series 750W, CMPSU-750TXV2EU, ATX2 v2.2, 140mm vent.

and in the end THANK YOU guys for helping me out!throwing in a little more info and suggestions and for your kind words!thanks!

MOBO ---> ASUS Sabertooth P67 GOOD

CPU ---> INTEL Core i5 2500K GOOD

RAM ---> Corsair Vengeance, 8GB DDR3 1866MHz, kit 2x4GB OK [maybe Ripjaws instead? they are actualy slightly better than Corsair vengance]

GPU ---> Gainward GeForce GTX 580, 1536MB GDDR5 OK [might be worth getting a 3gb version [games are starting to use or need around 2gb to max them out due to textures getting better and nore demanding]

HDD ---> 1000.0 GB SAMSUNG SpinPoint F3, SATA, 32MB cache, 7200RPM OK [maybe get an SSD 60/120gb for boot drive and a WD Green HHD for storage]

COOLER ---> ZALMAN CNPS11X Extreme NO [no point getting that, expensive for what it is AND not very good, wortH paying an extra £10-20 for a Thermalright Silver Arrow or Noctua D-14, or if your not worried about noise the H100]

CASE ---> SHARKOON Scorpio 2000 NO [Better off with the HAF X better in everyway and around the same price]

OPTICAL DRIVE ---> BD-ROM LG SuperMulti BLUE CH10LS20 GOOD [best blu ray drive for the money by far]

MONITOR ---> 22'' LCD SAMSUNG SM B2230HD

PSU ---> CORSAIR TX V2 Series 750W, CMPSU-750TXV2EU, ATX2 v2.2, 140mm vent. OK [If your looking to upgrade to a different GPU in the future or go SLI, and to future proof your system system better off going with a 1000W PSU unless you want to be there in 2 years with a PSU that is no use to you and haveto buy another one]

There you go sir

There you go sir

*ASUS Sabertooth P67 is actually a really good motherboard for the price and performance... and for ''todays time and standards'', I have tested it with 3 different cpu`s and did a build on it for my brother.

*INTEL Core i5 2500K is an excellent cpu!there is nothing wrong with it... it is in performance as same or very very very close to i7 2600k and yet the i5 2500k is almost half the price.

*Corsair Vengeance, 8GB DDR3 1866MHz, kit 2x4GB is a much more reliable manufacturer of RAM than G.Skill and Mushkin. Dont believe me?... scan the webz for just some of the problems that users of G.Skill and Mushkin products/RAM have. I have been using Corsair RAM since the days of Half-Life and Deus Ex and to this day they have never let me down or did I experience any hick ups or bs with them.

*Gainward GeForce GTX 580 1536MB GDDR5 along with the Gainward GeForce GTX 580 Phantom GDDR5 1536MB DDR5 is and excellent and are excellent cards (even though Gainward GeForce GTX 580 1536MB GDDR5 cools just a little bit better)!An excellent card with nice clock speeds and they can be overclocked even better... a tiny bit but more than enough! This is a high-end graphics card/high end gpu! Now regarding the thing you said "might be worth getting a 3gb version [games are starting to use or need around 2gb to max them out due to textures getting better and nore demanding" -> I definitely disagree with you on that one!sorry but that is not true... take a look at BF/BC 2: recommended req for a GPU are 512 MB Video Card (GeForce GTX 260/ ATI Radeon 4870), Bioshock 2: NVIDIA 8800GT 512MB graphics card or better, The Witcher 2/Assassins Of Kings: GeForce 260 or Radeon HD 4850, Deus Ex/Human Revolution: AMD Radeon HD 5850, Mass Effect 2: ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT or NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT or better recommended, Portal 2: Video card must be 128 MB or more and should be a DirectX 9-compatible with support for Pixel Shader 2.0b, Red Orchestra 2/Heroes Of Stalingrad: 512 MB SM 3.0 DX9 Compliant NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 or better ATI Radeon HD 5750 or better, Rage: GeForce 9800 GTX, Radeon HD 5550 or better GPU, Dead Space 2: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or better, ATI X1600 Pro or better, 256MB Video Card and Shader Model 3.0 required, Assassins Creed 2: GeForce 8800 GT or ATI Radeon HD 4700 or better(512 MB), Shogun 2/Total War: AMD Radeon HD 5000 and 6000 or Nvidia GT 240 series graphics cards or equivalent DirectX 11 compatible graphics card. And on a further note - I am using only a single 22" inch monitor... a single gpu with 1536MB GDDR5 is more than enough for that kind of monitor or any single monitor... now if I had 2 or 3 monitors than I would get that version of the card with the 3 GB DDR5 or even 2x GPU each with 1536GB DDR5.

*ZALMAN CNPS11X Extreme is a pretty good cooler, not excellent or something that would make me jerk off to it... but still pretty good. Especially for that price and the performance of cooling, and the fact that ZALMAN is a respected company in review and user community. Honestly I dont want or def need a Thermalright Silver Arrow or Noctua D-14 because I dont want or def need a power plant sticking out of my motherboard and sexually harassing my RAM`s!

*SHARKOON Scorpio 2000, much better ventilation and a lot more better options for mounting new fans in different places... plus I like the design.

*CORSAIR TX V2 Series 750W, CMPSU-750TXV2EU, ATX2 v2.2, 140mm vent. - Corsair are well known in the business of making PSU... to be honest a Corsair PSU and Corsair RAMS have been in many of my different cases since... well, way way back in the day. Funny thing is that you mention a 1000W PSU... wtf?what for?... powering an electric motorbike that I have in my backyard...

This Corsair TX v2 750W is more than enough, and believe it or not this PSU can power, juice and hold up to the beat for hours upon hours two GPU`s (SLI mode). How would I know that? Because my brother has the exact one that powers his dual GPU`s 560 in SLI mode... no hick ups no nothing. And believe it or not there is another less powerful version 700W Corsair GS CMPSU-700GEU that can power 2x GPU`s in SLI and I have seen that with my own eyes and was shocked to find/experience that.

For all of these components I did a detailed/thorough review... read a lot about them from places such as guru3d, tomshardware, overclock3d, overclockersclub and many more... a lot of inspection and research went into this combo.

Its kind of funny that you should know all of this or some of these things because as I can see your name is TechSmart... but yet again sometimes the ''sharpest'' of our own kind still cant slice thru butter... shame sir
sad.gif

p.s. - as I pointed out at the beginning of my/this post, I am NOT building a nuclear power plant to show or be cocky to my friends or anybody else! I was just trying to share with people that in these times you can make/build a very damn good rig between 2000$-2225$ for todays standards. I live alone, have a steady job with decent pay (nothing special), I have to do pay all of my bills by myself... so yes money is a concern for me. I am not one of those people who still lives with their parents and ask them for money to buy a rig for 3000$ which is ridiculous and a total throw of money into the wind.
