New folding rig - what motherboard?

ssd caching works but if you know how to put your os and main apps on the ssd yourself it defeats the purpose of the caching. If they improve it I will be all onboard, but where it is right now its just not better then loading up the ssd yourself. This means even a 32Gb up to 256 Gb.

Again if the board is good for you and you can utalize the features then buy it. In my personal opinion its not worth it for the reasons I listed.

Now eVGA just needs to start releasing mobos so my i7 can go some where other then my desk.

with ssd caching theres the advantage of buying an inexpensive (somewhat) 32GB or 64GB ssd and being able to increase the speed of an hdd that is 1TB+

in most real world situation you wont be able to tell the difference between the ssd by itseld and the ssd+hdd

and as i said the asus mobo is right in the pricerange of the pro/evo/sabertooth its not really a big price hike especially for what you get and what you save in buying say a 256GB ssd

Just a quick update. An i7 2600k arrived in the mail last week.

I've also ordered a HAF-912 case, Corsair TX750 v2, and the Gigabyte Z68X-UD4-B3. It is the same price as the P67-UD4 so it made it an easy choice. These other parts should be in this week so I will post pics when they arrive.

All that is left to purchase is a video card, monitor, and keyboard.

I thought about purchasing a small SSD and utilizing the new feature of Z68, but I don't think it's worth it. I plan on refreshing my 1366 system when socket 2011 is released so I will probably get a larger/faster SSD at that time and pass my 80GB Intel SSD to this machine.

Another small update before a build log.

All the parts are here! USB keyboard, MSI Hawk GTX560Ti and a 19" WS monitor arrived today. Unfortunately my wife prefers small monitors (WTF). She actually wanted a 17" but I talked her into a 19". She hates the size of my 22". Friends will be bring their own monitor over when they game
