New CPU cooler

I am currently looking for a new CPU cooler as i am still currently using my stock cooler, I have an E6600 and an Asus P5E-Deluxe MoBo and am looking for a very good cooler so that i can start looking at over clocking.

Currently i have narrowed it down to a chose of 2, due to being given different opinions on what is the best, so i come here for help on a decision.

The 2 coolers i have come down to are a zalman and an OCZ.

Apparently with the Noctua tere have been a fair few problems with fitting them to boards with heat pipes around the CPU area.

+1 on the noctua. I have a gigabyte x58-UD5 which uses a heatpipe design and it fits perfectly. Actually I have quite a lot of space left.

It is true that heatpiped coolers can have some fitting issues. Most manufacturers state on there website if it will not fit on a particular board.

Generally they will fit if you rotate them through 180 degrees to avoid the snarling point.

I always used Thermalright coolers before i went over to water. The last one i had, IFx-14 was amazing if not a tad large. So make sure it will fit on your case

To let you know, u can fit the NH-U12P onto what you have. You just need to grab a new braket from them.

For some odd reason, I kinda like the Thermalright SI-128 SE. TRUE should be very very good also. Noctua is always a safe bet, but a bit more expensive (you do get a nice silent fan on them, that might be worth the extra dough).

I would stay away from the Zalman, it performs just fine, but there are rumors of the fan getting louder at times, and you can't change it easily like on the others. It is also much more expensive then it should be.

I would go for the TRUE 120 (thermalright ultra 120 extreme) with yateloons (if you low on cash) or with nctua fans.

also the noctua NH-U12P heatsink is pretty good like Freak said.

both cool the cpu pretty good, so you can do some OC with good temps.

Voted for the OCZ, but I would recommend checking the mobo will allow the desired installation in regards to the crazy bridge/pwm cooling it may have.

Thermalright makes coolers for a living, OCZ just rebranded some OEM out there. So... choose wisely.

Who are the oem of the Vendetta 2 ?

The OCZ Vendetta2 is produced by Xigmatek and it's a tweaked version of the Xigmatek HDT-S1283. You can see that clearly from the retention mechanism, the aluminum plate over the heatpipes (CPU block with the ridges on the left and on the right) and the fan mounting system.

The only difference is the fin plates, they have the letters OCZ stamped on them and they are just a little deeper.

Another company that uses the same design as Xigmatek is Kingwin with RVT-12025. They don't even bother with modifications.

All these three coolers perform about the same. There is maybe half a degree performance gap between them, the OCZ beeing the one on top because of the slightly larger fins.

Does Corsair say that their TX series PSUs are built by CWT or is it the reviewers that opened up the thing and observed the sheer likeness?

I don't think OCZ will ever say that their brand name coolers are built by some other company. That's a bit suicidal.

It doesn't just look like it, apart from the fins it's the exact same cooler. Even the texture of the aluminum is the same. It doesn't take a rocket scientist.

And the fact that there are even more coolers just like that is because Xigmatek doesn't have a patent on the thing. No patent means copy center victim.

Anyway it doesn't really matter, the performance is there, I was just saying that they don't actually build the coolers.

im using nvidia 790i ultra board, E8500 running @ 3.3ghz with an OCZ vendetta 2 and my temps are 28 idle, 40 full load. Good enough?

No one is contesting the performance of the cooler. It's a really good one.

I couldn't find this exact info on the Vendetta2 page, but on the Vendetta page it really says that the cooler is built by Xigmatek.
