Hi,

I am looking at updating my PC and fancy a bit of future proofing.

So far I am looking at either the I7 3820 or 3930K, I am thinking the 3930K but im not sure if the performance gains are worth the extra £200

For the mobo I am looking at the Asus Rampage IV Extreme

Memory its between the Mushkin Redline or Crosair Vengence (Both 8GB kits)

PSU im looking at the OCZ ZX1000W

SSD - OCZ 120G Agility 3

Please comment and give me any ideas etc.

*EDIT* Forgot to add I already have a GTX 560Ti

Sorry if this is against forum policy's but DON'T buy OCZ's stuff its utter crap and unreliable. there power supply's are loud and there SSD's are false, and only fast read and write with compressed files only... read the small print. get yourself a solid brand like Corsair, Kingston, Coolermaster, Crucial or Be quiet! Anything but OCZ

Agreed, I have an OCZ vertex 3 and it is more trouble than it's worth!!! Go for corsair, Kingston or crucial

when it comes to the psu go for something around the 850w

and i would take a look at the corsair ax850 psu and when it comes to ssd then take a look at intel 520

yup the Corsair AX850 would be perfect for you. absolutely spot on. as for SSD its down to how much money you wanna spend on performance, I personally own a Crucial and its pretty good I guess, had no problems setting it up.

I will probably be looking at upgrading the graphics next year and possibly SLI, will 850W be ok for this?

3930K it will last you allot longer than the 3820, cause if you start noticing its getting slow you can overclock the 3930K but you cannot on the 3820, its definatly worth waiting and saving your money to get the 3930K imo

you can actually overclock the 3820 but it is not as easy/it has a limited multiplier, I too would get the 3930k over the 3820 if I were going to choose the 2011 socket

Alternatively you could also look at a different motherboard such as an Asus p9x79 pro or the msi X79A-GD65 8D and put the money saved from that towards the cpu and getting quad channel 16gb of RAM?

If its mainly gaming forget 2011 and just get an 1155 based rig and save your money...

Rampage 4 with a 560....? No one else see that the money saved should be spend on better graphics as this is for GAMING

Gaming and also music production

How much music production are you planning on doing? If it is just for gaming go for an i5 2500k or the ivy bridge equivalent with a z77 motherboard... Basically what he said ^

Would I be better getting another 560Ti or go for a single 570 or 580?

I would try and stick to a single gpu to save power and keep away from stuttering issues which apparently occur.

BTW love the videos TTL...

Or consider the 2600k or soon to be released 3770k?

If you don't want to splash out on the 2011 then either of those chips will be very affordable and hyper threading will help you with the music production.
