Hey guys! First time poster here!

I'm planning on building myself a nice gaming rig in the next couple of weeks. I have everything down except for the PSU. I'm not too sure which PSU I should get and I was hoping you guys could help me out :)

The build will have the following specs:

Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI formula
CPU: Intel Core i7 4770k
RAM: Kingston HyperX 2X8GB 1600MHz
GPU: ASUS GTX 780 DCII
SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 128GB
HDD: 1 TB WD Caviar Black
Case: Corsair Air 540
Cooler: Corsair H100i

I already have the peripherals which are the Corsair K70 keyboard and the Corsair M65 mouse.

I was initially thinking about the Corsair AX860 but I was hoping I could get some more opinions.

Thanks in advance for your responses!

I can highly recommend anything in the Seasonic Platinum Series. The 860W would be more than enough for your needs but would allow you plenty of growing room in the event that you required more Umpff. Alternatively you could get the slightly cheaper 760 or even the 660 which would both provide sufficient power.

An AX860 would be handy if you can ever foresee needing two GTX780's if not the AX760 will be a comfortable overkill. The sleeved cables are very nice. It's my understanding that the Corsair AX Plats are infact the same as Seasonic Plats so +1 to the above, they are definitely Seasonic built. The AXi models are flextronics built and seem to get equally as much praise and a little added criticism for the Corsair Link software, I saved my money and went with the AX Plat and have been very pleased.

I like the Maximus VI Formula, I hope it is better priced than the extreme. Surprised your not going for red Vengeance Pro?

Even with a pair of 770's, a 760i is plenty. If you don't think you'll be going that route, get a high quality 650'ish unit like the Seasonic Platinum 660 which is one of the best power supplies available.

Thank you all for your very helpful replies. Looks like I'll be going with the ax760! I am going to be overclocking in the near future, just not right away. Would the ax760 still be sufficient with overclocking?

@JR23 That is something i have been contemplating for a while now. The reason for my choice is that I haven't had the best experience with Corsair RAM, but I have never had issues with Kingston RAM. This is not to say that Corsair does not make good quality products, it has just been my experiences thus far.

Thank you all again for the very helpful replies!!

The ax760 will be no problem for overclocking. This is quite a good tool for getting a rough estimate of how much power your rig will use!

Fair enough I thought it was odd you were going with a H100i which are known to be a bit of a problem area and then kingston RAM. I mean its all memory I just thought the red VP would look slick on a MVIF with all the other Corsair tackle, it is after all where Corsair made their name.

if you will not sli that 780, a 760w psu is not needed. get the seasonic G 550W, its enough for your build + OC. or the seasonic X 650 if you just want those W

You know, I do agree. After watching TTL's video of them again I am really reconsidering them. They do look amazing :P And thank you, I really appreciate your input :)

Any other input towards my build?

Not really it sounds good, it will be a really strong theme with the MVIF and the DCII both with their backplates and shrouds, the VP would really work with them too. And I would personally get the AX760 just to have the corsair braided cables in red but it would be an unnecessary expense unless you need to satisfy an OCD. If there is any room left in the budget I would suggest stretching out to a 240/256GB SSD, I used to have a 120 and unless managed extremely well its a bit difficult and I don't exactly try and put every single game and program ever on my PC for fun.

Well you see, the reason I initially thought about the AX860 was for the braided cables :P they are definitely something I will be getting, but after a few paychecks to recover from the necessary things. Along with the braided cables I also plan on getting some Corsair SF fans. Hopefully it will all look good when done.

I have thought about getting a larger SSD, especially since there is a speed increase with the larger SSDs. I'll see what I can do with my budget aswell as the prices I can get for the parts, might be able to work something out!

Thanks for your feedback!!

If no sli in the future than a 650 watt is plenty and 750 is just for overkill.

Go for seasonic IMO. Best one that i am aware of.... Also kingston Black ram is uber sexy and since you like them mine as well try it!
