hi, im looking to build/upgrade my rig atm, it isnt very good at all the only thing i will be keeping from it is the HDD (for all my files) and the optical drive.

i really getting pulled towards the z77 platform with the i5 3570k, with a mild overclock of 4ghz. i have a few questions about this, and my build

1. what would be a suitable cooler for this overclock im looking for something no more then around £40
2. i like the look of the asrock extreme4 board and want to know if its okay to overclock
3. would a 600w corsair power supply be enough for this hardware:
i5 3570k
asrock extreme4
cooler ( to be confirmed)
2-4 corsair af/sp fans
8gb corsair vengeance ram
either a 560 ti or a 7850 ( not decided )

4. and last of all can anyone suggest a website where all of this would be a fair amount of money, im not looking to spend much over £650 but £700 can be done.

any help will be much appreciated and i know this is a bit much all in 1 post, but i didn't want to fill the forums with my threads.

cheers, will.

1. The Havik 120 is just over £40 on Scan. Alternatively the CM Hyper 212+ is around £20 on Scan. The 212+ is a very good cooler for the price, but because the IB CPU's are warmer than the SB CPU's it would be better to get a better cooler. I would personally grab the Havik 120, which should adequately cool the 3570k at 4Ghz.

2. Yeh, it will be fine to overclock with that board. What made you think it wouldn't be fine?

3. A 600W power supply will be more than enough. As long as you choose one of the more reliable brands like you have already done, you should be fine.

thanks for the advice
i had a look at the havik and it looks like it would be a good cooler too, and the reviews back this up, also it would look so nice with a black and white theme'd rib like what i plan on going (white - bitfenix shinobi)

and the only thing that made me want to make sure is that it will be my first overclock and i want to make sure that i have chosen the right bored for the job.

and yea i do like the corsair ones, and ill go with one of them cheers

one more thing with the cooler, would it be wise to swap out the nzxt fans for a set of corsair SP fans?

cheers for the help again.

The corsair fans are better but they are very loud at 12v. You can obviously set a fan profile if you're connecting to the mobo or if you have a fan controller you can keep the fan speed down that way.

1. havik 120 is a good choice
2. the board will deffo do the job
3. corsair 650w should be alright
4. aria, scan, specialtech
get the corsair air series fans...
tom loves em so they should be dynamite

Actually, for a 4GHz overclock you won't need an aftermarket cooler. I've been running my 3570k at 4ghz on the stock cooler just fine (pending gettign around to fitting my water cooling). You won't need to add volts until about 4.2 ish so there's no additional heat to contend with tbh.

A semi-decent air cooler like the 120 havoc or shadow rock will deal with moderate voltage increases getting you to the mid 4GHz clocks.

You can't really go wrong with any of the z77 boards so yea the Asrock is just great.

Personally I'd go with the TX650 corsair PSU which gives you a little more cable management than the 600W builder series because it is semi-modular.

I'd take the 7850 over the 560. Better energy efficiency and really easy overclocking (well worth doing).

I tend to shop from Aria, Scan, Overclockers and Specialtech.

cheers for your help guys, i think i will go with the havik may overclock higher then 4ghz due to what master&puppet said and ive been looking at scan and im going their, only downside tho is they dont do the bitfenix shinobi :(

its better to save a bit and get a water cooling system...then you can OC more...i mean, in the meanwhile just use the stock cooler then when you got $$ get the water cooling
