Hey, planing on building a new pc in about 3 weeks:D. Just wanted some reccomendations for a gpu. Looking to spend about 170, may be able to strech to 200. Dont rele want to go sli but is this the best option?

Thx 4 the help

I would say not to buy anything untill the new gen cards are out. Then look at which provides best performance for your budget.

if you are desperate, get a cheap gpu to see you through untill the new cards come out.

i wouldnt stick to the rumours they said the 9 series were going to have DX10.1 support and would be out last august but they didnt come out for months after

my opinon is that if you wait you will just keep waiting for the next one

i would go for this

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp... GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

and its your lucky week as its on "this week only" offer :D

If I were going for a 9800GTX I wouldn't buy that one.. Especially not from them.

I was literally minutes away from buying this one the other day after plenty of searching around: Link to happiness

I did however decide to wait and spank the money down on one of the big dogs when they come out in the next month or two.

not from them?? lool overclockers have provided me with the best customer service known to the net :p ive had problems with dabs altho that is a nice card

Ahh mine's quite the opposite.. Dabs used to suck but have really got their act together.

Has some bad service from Overclockers myself.

It's not related to reps at all but posts I think is 25.. Not 100% sure though so if I'm wrong, someone please correct me :)

What I meant by big dog was the new high end beasts that are going to be released mid June according to rumours. They are looking like they could actually provide a significant step up in performance compared to what we saw with the 9800's over the 8800's.

will they be alot more expensive then? Is it realy worth the wait?

Well yeah I expect they will be more expensive but if you have the money then they will probably worth it if you need that sort of power. Another benefit of waiting even if you don't want one of the new ones is they should drive the prices of the current cards down.

the new cards(9900 or gt 200) arent going to be that good first off because there so new 2nd b/c it'll take forever to get a decent driver out for them and 3rd b/c there is no game that needs that much power figure $600 or more for a card that might be compared to a quadro (that 30k gfx thing nvidia made). the only ppl that are going to buy them are the ppl that want bragging rites. i say wait till theres a game that uses all the card has to offer

Firstly, you can't say something isn't going to be good because it's new... Everything is new at some point .

Secondly, again everything needs time to get new drivers churned out.. The GX2 and X2's drivers weren't perfect when they first came out but they weren't trash either and updates didn't take long at all.

Last but not least thirdly.. Crysis!! No card aimed at this market can currently play Crysis in all its glory.. Not even Tri-Sli Ultras. Dropping that amount of money on the very highest top of the line card can proove to be worth it. I never used to think so but with all the crapy releases recently, the people who bought the 8800GTX when it first came out paid a pretty penny but have been able to keep it ever since and not get spanked by any of the new competition. Al la Kempez.

Also in the not too distant future there could well be some games that will require the power to play them at maximus settings. Not sure what Far Cry 2 is going to need but that could be one.

1st i can say that its going to be bad b/c its new b/c if u did your research you'd see the new cards will have a new shader system putting these cards apart from the recent others.

2nd i refer you back to my 1st point, yes the gx2 had drivers out fairly fast but with the 99s its a completely new card and problems will be harder to fix so quickly.

3rd idk what market your talking about b/c 2 9800 gtx's in sli and oc'ed with water cooling could spank crysis on very high settings. mind you, you wouldnt be able to use out ragous resolutions but it would look like it was ment to none the less.

and lastly its pointless to get so hyped about a new card when they are released so fast that by the time u have the money to get the best theres a better one out, and farcry 2 isnt as demanding on the gpu as crysis as its been optimized and most of the computing for the game is done by the cpu.

agentx you have no idea what your on about..

New gen cards are NEW.. and if they provide the step up in performance gains anything like the 8800 did.. then its a great buy!

I say wait for the big dogs to hit the shelves.. and at the very least it will bring down the old car pricess

Yea but how long will he be waiting that is the question i waited like 8months for the 9 series to be released altho i was told it will come out within 3 months

but yes it will drive prices down and yes it will be very almighty and great but if you want to wait and you want the top card and you have the money cos these wont be cheap like when the 8800gtx were released they were easily going for £600

its all about waiting up to you

but then you will end up waiting like me cos something new came out but i was told to wait for the next thing then the next so what ever you buy within 6 months its devalued alot :(

hope this helps

The new cards as stated twice already are rumoured.. heavily.. for around june.. so not much wait at all.. And as for the price.. Hmm yeh they will be pricey.. but well worth it.

what silent snake is saying is that by the time the average person can afford "the best card" theres a new one coming out thats better. best practice is to get a top end card so it will last you until you absolutely have to upgrade.

and pat123 i said these cards are new, completely new. and in order to be a great buy at over 600 usd that performance boost would have to be a really big step up to make me buy it.
