Networking issue

I have a router in the main room that is used as a wireless access point and a 10m long ethernet cable running to my room for my PC. At the moment the wireless signal is too weak in my room and my phone struggles to stay connected. I thought of getting a wireless repeater and set it up in my room, but I've already read horrible things about them and even then, I would need a switch in order for the repeater and my PC to be wired at the same time. In the future I would also like to have a PS3/PS4 by my PC that I'd like to have a wired connection as well. In essence I need a network switch that would also act as a wireless repeater. Is there even a device like that or is there another solution?

I would recommend using a powerline, for your computer and console.
there are powerlines with more than one eternet ports so you could use one plug and connect both PC and console. It's not worth getting a repeater, some of them are good but for gaming wifi is terrible. If you buy powerline you will be able to use the wifi on your computer to become a wireless access point (tethering) so your phone can connect

If I get another router, would I be able to use the second one as a switch and a wireless access point or would I still need to put a switch before the main router?

Are you trying to connect two wireless routers together tirelessly using one as a bridge? - If so don't just get a set of powerlines as has been previously recommended. If you need to you can plug a switch or wireless access point into the power line to give you signal in your dead spot.

This has wireless built into of the power lines If I understand your requirements this is exactly what you need. If you need a faster speed than 300Mbs they are available but they are more expensive.

Yes you can do this, I myself am currently making use of old routers this way :)

You need to assign the old router a static IP address (I use 192.168.1.200, 201, 202, 203+ for mine) then use a powerline adapter to pipe through the data to it.

I have main router in following;

Dining Room - Huewei HG 635 (FTTC Router Dual Band Wireless N + Wireless AC)
Front Room (Wireless switched off so acts as switch - Wireless G) - D-Link 2610R
Main Bedroom D-Link DSL 2680 (Wireless N + 1 spare Ethernet port after Powerline Adapter) for upstairs wireless signal boost
Outside in Shed - Heiwei HG533 (Wireless N + 4 Port Switch - input into WAN / Fibre port - Used for Home Server and PC repairs)

They all run the same wireless name (SSID) but use different channels so as not to clash with each other and also so don't have to reconnect to a different SSID each time it hops between them as the devices as the devices will lock onto the strongest signal, and it happens almost seemlessly.

The powerline adapters I use are http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/netwo...werline-adapter-starter-kit-16842033-pdt.html I have brought 2 packs of them and haven't regretted it since as they are all paired together although mine are 200Mbps units where as these are the upgraded versions of them but have the same product number so poss a firmware upgrade for them :)

Hope this helps, and if you need any help or more info, please let me know.

I have a cable running from the main router to my room, where I would need the second router. Can I utilize this instead of a powerline? Seems like a waste is I already have means of connecting them.

Yes you can, I doubt the cable is over 100m long, so you will be fine... :)
