Hi,

And welcome to the forums you don't have to use neoprene sheets with your GT however some people choose too, If you are in the UK you could always ring Phil here at extremeprometeia.com on 01292570333 and he should be able to help you out if not then look at places that sell peltier coolers (otherwise known as TEC's ) they use neoprene insulation or gaskets

Hi Fatty

Thanks for inf

I tried it once with an 8RDA+ and got a bit of condensation on the back of the motherboard.Poss because the wires had come loose from the rear heater so it wan't working.Haven't really had the time nor guts to try it again since then.As i am on a DFI-SLI-Dr with an opteron at 3100Mhz on air. I thought of giving it a go again.Cold bug problem a bit worrying. So i thought id have a go on an 8RDA+ and a xpm which does 2650MHz on air cooling. That way i can learn about pitfalls etc before trying it on the Opteron. If i use neoprene what thickness would i need? Many thanks

To go behind the back plate and to use as a gasket between teh head and the cpu kit at teh fron I use 1/8" thick neoprene.

Cheers

Hi

Thanks Mav.About 3mm then.

Ta for the inf.Figure losing an 8rda if it goes wrong wouldn't be a big lose nowdays.

Always make the gasket at the rear of the plate solid (neoprene rectangle) and oversize it by a 3-5mm all the way round - I never had a problem with mine since I fitted it 3 months ago.

Thanks Mav

Presume thats on the A64 kit(still a bit confused as to why they made it from ally)

Found some sheet kits at an online retailer

Will also spray back of motherboard with conformal coating

Was wondering on the Socket A sys if it would be worth cutting a square of neoprene to put in the hole in the middle of the socket?

Ta all for all the info

Yup! Neoprene, dielectric, anything ya like, the hole in the middle is best filled. Its a big space for condensation, so needs to be dealt with.

Dont link to other e-tailers please, remember this is a forum attached to a shop.
