Hi all,

firstly let me introduce my self, my name is firat im 20 years old.

I built my first Pc at 17 , im at university now and currently study something totally irrelevant to computers (biochemistry) but im a computer enthusiast i love computers and such, so this is why i am here....

i really want to build a really good system not that i will need it for more than experimental purposes but i just want to see what i can do,

i have bought an asus rampage extreme 3 and 6 X 2gb kingston 1333mhz ram so far

im convinced that the cpu cooler i will need as i will be overclocking somewhat will be the noctua nh-14 im not sure what processor i should get, power supply (quiet) i will need and also need advice on graphics cards and also best hardrive brands,

if anyone has any ideas feel free and get involved id love to have a pc built with all of your ideas

Thanks

Fira

Yo welcome to the forums I'm Chris and Im 15. Fr you build you should get the i7 950, the nh d14, a 580 or 570 depending on your budget, for psu u should get a corsair ax 850 if ur sliin if not 750 ax. Muskin redline ridgeback 6gb is your best bet for ram, or If you can't get them get dominator gt s, for hardrives look at corsair force series or Kingston v + as a ssd. For hdd I would reccomend the wd re3 1tb (I have one) there great hardrives

My favourite hard-drive is the Samsung Spinpoint F3's at the moment 1tb version.

I don't know about that ram you've got but as you have bought it already will have to do yes the i7 950 would be a good choice of CPU as sources said and if you check my reply to your water-cooling thread I think that's worth a try if you want to go down the route else the NH-D14 is definitely your best choice! Graphics cards simple if you can afford the 570/580 then definitely buy them if you are a bit stuck for cash try 460's in SLI HAWK Version's that is it should come to around £320ish for them both thats my opinion im sure others will think differently

A GTX 570 costs around 300 GBP and it will beat GTX460s SLI (320 GBP) so if you can afford around 300 pounds on a graphics card get a 570.

What's your budget? But yeah, you should definitely have an NH-D14 if you don't want to be mucking about with liquid. Sammy F3s are better than the re3

Also, depending on your budget you should get an SSD. Unfortuantely I haven't done a lot of digging on the subject so I cant tell you which are the really good ones. Others could help you here. Right about now the 950 as benj3 said is probably the best bang for buck X58. The ram you've bought seems a little slow to me if you want to clock, though. Just as an idea I'm currently running a Corsair TX750 on two GTX 460s with increased voltages and a clocked 950 and Mushkin radioactive and I haven't heard the PSU once. As long as you pick Corsair you should be fine

. You should tell us your budget first, though as you still need GPUs.

This buid will take place over time but my budget is around £2000 the ram I have is Kingston hyperX xmp 1600mhz 6 x 2gb of it do you think it will not be good enough? I mean do you know the best ram for rampage ex 3 because I want to be running 12gb at 2 x tripe ddr3 channel

no you don't want be running 2x triple channel at all

. Because having ram in every slot will decrease you overclock.

They will be fine, however right now the best memory to get will be some mushkin ridgeback at 1600Mhz with CL6 timings. They overclock easy to 2000Mhz at CL9 timings.

At that budget I would suggest:

CPU : Intel Core i7 970

Mobo: Rampage 3 extreme like you said

RAM: 12 GB (3x4) of see above
biggrin.gif

GFX: GTX 570 SLI or even GTX580 SLI ? (580 SLI will be totally overkill for gaming atm)

PSU: Corsair AX or HX 850-1200W (depending whether you go SLI)

Cooler: Noctua NH-D14

Storag: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 7200 rpm, for storage

and a Kingston V+ SSD (64GB-254GB for OS and some other stuff)

Case: Choose a Full tower that you like

Decreases clocking capabilities and takes a longer time to load. Will you be using this just for gaming? As Aurus suggested an i7 970 and one 580 would do you perfectly. If you want to pop another 580 in there in some time you could do but for now it would be perfect.

Ok I guess I'll return the Kingston ram and I'll get 4x3 muchkin can you give me the part number/ name for this ram

So will this proposed ram fit well with the noctua? Is there significant difference between mushkin and Kingston hyperx 4gb 1600mhz ram?

It will fit under the NH-D14 perfectly fine. It will also perform significantly better (at least at your budget
biggrin.gif
) because of the lower timings.

Mushkin 12GB (3x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 9-9-9-24 Blackline - 998776

this is one i found for £160 but i could find the one you suggested for some reason is this good enough like i said how does the kingston xmp hyperx compare to these 2?

where is this ram avaliable ? cant find 3 x4gb......would there be much difference in speed if i went upwards from 12gb with the mushkin ridgeback??? let build a monster
