Need to recover files and folders from formatted hdd

I was trying to make a bootable usb flash and wrongly misread drive letter of usb drvive to be formatted.

As a result I mistakingly formated my secondary storage drive, a Western Digital 250gb (WD2500KKS) .

I had all my family documents ..pictures..videos..and app setups in there. No Back ups of these files have ever been done and I'm pretty f$%^& up psychologically right now.

I deep scanned with Wondershare Data Recovery which I downloaded but no success.

Please help !

no rewriting or reboot was done , this happened a couple of hours ago and the hard drive has no mech problems whatsoever just the format that was done

first try recuva, as that's the easiest tool to run, but if it's been formatted you'll probably find it'll find the files but wont recover them.

After that download and burn the ultimate boot cd (google it)

when in there launch up partition magic and use photo rec

It's not easy software to use initially but just find yourself a guide and you should be able to do it, it will take a long time though.

Dont panic though, if you quick formatted then all that has happened is the very beginning and end of the drive has been deleted and all the underlying data is still there, even if you did a full format most of the data will still be there

Well you could try a number of recovery programs. Recuva works the best for me, which is why I recommended it above. But it looks like a long shot unfortunately given that the previous program you used did not recover the lost data. Try recuva and/or the program Beattie linked to.

And the winner is.....Easeus!!!

I tried 4 different file recovery programs everything from Wondershare to Recuva the latter kept feeding of my memory until it just ran out even though I kept it running for 12 hours nonstop but no success. I finally got all my files back though. The program that did this was from Easeus called Data Recovery Wizard.

I forgot to mention that during the reformat the file system was also changed to FAT32 from NTFS but this program still managed to find all the NTFS files and folders that I lost.

The program was very fast, it took about 4 hours to find all the files (in my wd 250gb hdd) and another two hours to export to a diiferent hdd. The important thing to successful recovery is to never overwrite the hdd that you want to recover files from. Also this program was very lite on memory and cpu usage. It was very easy to understand and work with.

I am back to my normal self (chipper) again.

Thank you all for your help!!
