Need Suggestions for New Browser and Search Engine

Hey guys.

I really do not like Googles practices with our privacy and the such, I would like to go google free.

I need a suggestion for best web browser to use and best search engine that are both NOT google.

As for the the Web Browser I should let you know I have only ever used Internet Explorer and then google Chrome.

I really like Chrome for a few reasons, 1. Tabs, 2. Its fast, 3. I like the way I can have my favorites in a long bar at the top of the browser, 4. The incognito window is cool.

So I would like to find a browser that has as many of those similar features.

I would think you will probably suggest Fire Fox? I have not used it so if that is the suggestion please let me know what version I need. If you think there is a better browser please post it.

I am assuming Bing would be the next best search engine?

Thanks guys.

I've been using Opera for a while now and love it. Has similar style to Chrome in some respects, especially tabs and the "speed dial" function where you can save loooads of you favourites so everytime a new tab opens you can just click one for easy access.

I have been using opera for the last 6/7 years now and it has come a long way in terms of looks and features for example it has speed dial/tab stack, it looks great in my opinion

FireFox has their own function similar to Chrome's Incognito mode, don't remember what it's called though. And it has a lot of stuff like Ad Block Plus and Speed dial apps, so you can customize it to your likings/needs. Also has some neat and good looking skins. Also it should be as quick as Chrome.

The only reason I use Opera is I cant get used to firefox for some weird reason. I use chrome on all my laptops and such though, it's very fast and simple when your in a hurry.

Also, I have tried peoples machines that use Bing as their default search engine, and imo it's horrible. Never gives me the results I want, and I always end up using google instead.

Google is a big contributor to Mozilla. If you want to stay Google free, you will need to avoid FireFox as well. You could try Safari, but that uses Webkit. Google uses webkit in Chrome as well so is a big contributor to webkit, so you should avoid Safari too. Your best bet would be Opera.

If you think you have privacy anywhere on the net you are mistaken.

Can't you just say no when they ask you to "help contribute"? I use chrome as i like it the most, i have tried FF several times but i just don't like it...

Mate Google is not the only one snooping around, if you read the T&Cs of any program you've installed or services you've used, you would understand the only way to stop companies snooping would be to live in a cave with nothing. Plus the information Google gathers is trivial and I think you can opt out of it, however if you insist about going Google-free then, Opera is a good browser and search engines would be Bing or Yahoo!

Bing has the same privacy-infringing features as Chrome. The search bar predicts what you're searching for in real time. FF would probably be a good bet. I've never used it though. Yahoo search may be good. Once again, I haven't used it personally.

You could also use Scroogle as your search engine.

You can also use their SSL encryption search engine as well, it will encrypt your search terms so no one will be able to see what you are searching for.

I'm not even gonna say what sprang to mind there

Just reminds me of that "In-private Browsing" advert Microsoft did when the bloke supposedly was looking for a "ring" for his wife
