Need some Input on WC Parts

Hello again OC3D,
The time has come for me to start thinking about a water cooling loop. I've been envious of all the other loops I see around here and on other forums, and I decided I need one of my own. That said, I've never done this kind of thing before so I'd really appreciate the input. I'm sticking with a CPU loop for now (mainly due to budget), but may get a GPU loop going at some point once an ASUS GTX 670 block is available. So here is what I'm thinking:

XSPC Raystorm EX280 Watercooling Kit - I know some of you might think that getting a kit is kind of lame, and I kind of think that too, but after pricing out getting all the parts I need individually, this kit comes out to be so much less that it would be stupid not to buy it. I will only be using the Raystorm block, EX280 radiator, and D5 Dual Bay pump/res combo from the kit, since I already have other stuff or want to use other stuff (see below). I was going to put the EX280 in the roof of my 650D along with the Blue LED Spectre Pros I already have (which will require some moddding if my measurements are correct), but nothing I can't handle.

PrimoChill PrimoFlex PRO LRT Tubing 7/16" x 5/8" - Needed some blue tubing, this seemed like a good option.

PrimoChill Deonized Water - After doing some research, I thought it would be best to steer away from dyes altogether, hence the blue tubing and not blue coolant. I wanted blue coolant so it would show up in the front bay res, but I'm willing to sacrifice a little aesthetic for a more reliable loop I think. If there is a safe dye though, let me know.

Copper Sulfate Biocide and/or Silver KillCoil - Which is better? Can they be used together? I'm at a loss here.

Various Fittings - I'll be planning out the loop beforehand and buy appropriate angle fittings when the time comes to make it tidy. What's a good brand that sells various angled fittings?

I know that was a long post, but I appreciate if you read the whole thing and can help me out. As soon as the budget allows I'm going to purchase these parts, and start updating my build log, which you can find here (but no pictures since I organized my Photobucket therefore breaking links, and the edit function is broken so I can't fix it!) :( Thanks in advance everyone!

If you off set the screws in the roof you will be able to fit a RX240 push/pull as long as your ram isn't too tall.

Its normally either/or as they both do the same job, however you can use both. I just have a killcoil.

I use that and its good stuff.

PrimoChill Deonized Water

You can just get that from a chemist or stores for cheaper - look for distilled water. If you are wanting an EK block for the GPU then read their site as they are making up some daft rules about the none-ek liquid in the loops.

Don't think I'll need push pull, don't want the extra fans and therefore noise.

Got it, I'll probably get just a KillCoil since it seems easier and less dangerous.

Great.

Yeah good idea, the water seemed pretty expensive from what I saw. And no chance I'd get an EK block after seeing all the horror stories on the internet!

120mm fans tend to be better on rads than 140mm, so I'd go for a 240mm rad

This doesn't make much sense to me as the 140mm fans I'm using have better static pressure and higher CFM than the 120mm version, plus more the more surface area the better right?

See my replies in bold above.

Well its a thicker rad with a lower fin density, and if you used p/p you can lower the speed of both fans.

If you are looking for silence then you want the lower fin density, as that requires less static pressure (less noise) to get the air through.

What fans are you using?

All blue LED Bitfenix Spectre Pros, 200mm intake in the front, 2 140mm fans in the roof, 1 intake and 1 exhaust, and a 120mm exhaust in the back, like this:

Bitfenix fans are meant for air flow, not use on rads. No surprise the 140mms are better.

If you had NF-F12s, Scythe GTs or Silverstone APs, that would be a different case on the 120mm fans

Noctua NF-F12's are definitely out of the price range, but you're right about the BitFenix being airflow fans, not static pressure. Maybe I'll pick up some Corsair SP fans, those look pretty good.

check into the BGears 140 (3.5 static) or 120 (3.00 static) can undervolt and still be quite workers.
and both are inexpensive and available

Love how I just google image searched them and 2 of the pictures in the top 4 are of your rig!
I've never seen them around in the UK though

Most of the parts are ordered except for some angled fittings which I'll get when I see it all in the case. Expect a project log soon, and wish me luck!

yeah, it usually takes two to three orders to get the fittings, rotary (angled/snaked), and
spacers to get it all as needed. and so far, i'm getting a lil extra inventory as not to order
so many times. i've got four builds with a single order and the rest (too numerous) in three.
good luck, you won't need the luck, just patience and an eye for the details.
what did you finally order?

Ended up with the XSPC Raystorm EX280 kit (from which I will use the block, rad, fittings, and pump/res combo), 7 feet of PrimoChill LRT UV Blue tubing (I know I'll only need like 4 feet, but a little extra never hurt), a silver killcoil, and some deionized water. I am still nervous on the whole silver vs. copper sulfate thing, not sure which to use. Also, I got the combo instead of buying the parts I needed separately because I thought the combo would save me a lot of money, but it ended up being about $7 more than individual parts. The $7 goes towards the fittings though I guess, plus the other miscellaneous crap I won't need but I guess will be good to have. Sound good?
